DS is 2.5 years old ... stopped the Dr. Brown's bottles and went to
sippy cups at age 1. Over time I replaced nipples to go with them and
when he was done with a certain level o nipple I sterilized and stored
them in plastic sandwich baggies for baby # 2. I also saved the other
bottle/ parts. Well baby # 2 will be here the middle of next month. In
the event she also takes Dr. Brown's would you use the nipples I store
if they are in good shape. I would sterilize them again. Also do you
think it is OK to give a newborn formula from an 80z bottle as opposed
to the 4 oz bottles if you are only giving, say 2-3 oz at a time?
Re: Bottles/Nipples
The bottles I would re-use (and did for DD2) but not the nipples. The plastic can break down over time, making them more likely to rip/tear, and if a piece comes off it can be a choking hazard. I'm sure plenty of people re-use them with no issue, but to me it wasn't worth saving them and risking it.
Also, using big bottles for a newborn is fine. I preferred the smaller bottles when they were taking 6 oz or less just because they were easier to hold, but there's no reason you can't give a few oz out of an 8 oz bottle.
