I'd double check w/ your doctor, but mine told me any OTC reflux meds are safe. Pepcid, Prilosec, Zantac all that kinda stuff. I, personally, take Prilosec OTC because of the typeof /reason causing my acid reflux. there's really 2 different types of acid reflux meds. Pepcid and Zantac, Tums, etc... cure the acid after it happens. You can take them any time of day, twice to several times a day depending on which one we're talking about. Where, Prilosec is a proton pump inhibitor. You take it before you put anything in your stomach for best effect & only once a day. My stomach for example produces too much acid all the time no matter what i eat, do, etc... so the inhibitor actually shuts down/slows down the production of acid from the pump in my stomach.
I'd try the basics first before trying anything like Prilosec.
Check with your Dr. I have acid reflux when I am not pregnant but when I am pregnant its unbearable. I do not take nexium or anything while pregnant but my Dr. does put me on 75 mg of zantac twice a day. I also have tums if needed. Good luck. I know its not fun at all.
Re: Acid reflux meds?
Regular Tums and Maalox are fine.
