Okay so DS is very very constipated, I mean it's pretty bad. This may be TMI just to warn everyone. So DS had his party today and was really upset for a good portion of it. Since Friday he will try and poop and all that comes out is like 1 maybe 2 rock hard nuggets (sorry).
I don't really know what to do. Here's another TMI. He is so exhausted from trying to poop that like this evening we were giving him a bath and he started to try and poop. I grabbed him up and as I did he curled his legs into his stomach so I sort of held him up against me with his legs between us to sort of help move things along. So DH looked and sure enough he was trying to poop and it was huge, we tried everything we could, moving him certain ways, trying to push at things to get it to move, I'm trying to be simple about my description. Either way we tried everything to help him, meanwhile he had fallen asleep on me through all of this. I feel so bad and I'm just wondering if I should be concerned about it? Anything I can do to help him out?
Re: Constipation
I would call the pedi and see if they suggest something like a suppository.
I don't really have any advice. I would maybe call the doctor if he doesn't pass it by tomorrow. There has to be something you can give him to help.
Poor baby. I hope it gets better.
Oh and like always increasing his liquid intake will help, but I am sure you know this.
He needs to get that big poop out. Increasing liquids will help ensure that future poop doesn't get so hard but it is not going to soften up the hard lump that is already in there.
I don't give J. juice as a rule but when pureed prunes weren't doing the trick, I did give him prune juice: probably about 6-8 oz total & it helped within 24 hours.

We did pick up some today, because same thing our rule is no juice. In situations like this we have tried, like when he had surgery, or had the stomach bug. But now we did get some prune juice and tonight I got him to drink like 2 oz, but that's it. I will try to do that tomorrow, but will call his ped, just in case.
He does eat enough food that should help avoid this problem but I think maybe the milk is what is causing it.
We're having the same problem. I think it's because of the amount of milk we've introduced. We've backed off some of the milk and we give him pureed prunes 1-2 times per day, plus applesauce/pears, etc. No cheese. And we offer water all the time.
Does prune juice work better than pureed prunes? DS won't touch apple juice so I'm not sure what he'd think of prune juice.

He seems to be okay with the prune juice, he doesn't love it, but he does drink a little bit. He did start going a little today but it is still rock hard. He has his 1 year visit Wednesday so I will be taking him in and asking about it.
We are just avoiding to much milk now, replacing it with water, and staying away from bananas and applesauce for now.
