Did your gates screw into the wall? I am just curious if they made some that didn't, some that had more of a suspension type of fitting. We got a brand that screwed in but now I am just curious if other brands install differently. I think we will find more comfort knowing they screw into the wall.
Re: baby gate installation
We haven't installed yet but the ones I purchase all screw into the wall (at least for top & bottom of stairs). They do make tension gates and that is what we have for between our kitchen and the hall -- we'll see how it works and if it is easy to push over then we'll invest in the screw-in kind for that spot too.
I wouldn't use tension gates near stairs but they seem OK for between rooms.

I agree!

Gates at the top or bottom of stairs must be screwed into the walls. If you are using them in between rooms, then you can use the tension ones.
We found this out this weekend when we were attempting to install a tension gate at the top of the stairs and the manual had a huge warning that said it could not be installed at the top of the stairs without screwing it into the wall.
