So yesterday my doctor told me we would schedule an induction at my 39 week appointment. I have had a typical textbook pregnancy, and the only reason for scheduling an induction is because it's the common procedure. I wouldn't actually be induced until probably 41 weeks. I am going to a military hospital, mind you, so a lot of appointments book up fast. In fact, most weeks I can only make an appointment to see my doctor, a popular resident, during his lunch break. If I don't make an appointment for a possible induction next week, I risk not being able to make an appointment, if I should find myself in a position to be needing one, until after 41 weeks. Should I just schedule the induction to be on the safe side? I don't want to be induced, but I don't want to end up being 42 weeks pregnant and putting my baby at any unnecessary risk. Wwyd?

Re: Should I schedule an induction?
At my appt last week (39w4d), Dr. said my cervix was thinning, but still high and no dilation. We pre-scheduled an induction for 41 weeks because thats what his practice does. I am hoping I wont need to be induced, but am worried about it. My Dr. did say they would try stripping membranes or they have some kind of cream they can rub on the cervix (?) if LO doesn't come before our appointment on Monday (40w2d). Maybe you can ask if your Dr. if he can try that first.
Also, my Aunt went to almost 42 weeks and ended up needing emergency c-section because baby had bowl movement while in the womb and rapidly dropping heart rate. So there are some risks with allowing LO to be too overdue.
