Anyone else feel tired ALL the time?

DD sleeps from 7pm-6am with 2-3 wake-ups to nurse. Currently I'm too tired to get rid of the feedings so I give in. It takes less than 10 min to nurse, but if I let her cry she will sometimes cry longer than that. I go to bed around 10, so I get enough sleep, yet I'm tired and sleepy starting with the afternoon. If I could, I would drink coffee all day long, but I limit it to two cups.

Is anyone else experiencing this lack of energy rut? Did anyone get over it and how? Don't tell me to exercise! Lol Actually, I know I should. So far walking and lifting DD all day is all I get.

Re: Anyone else feel tired ALL the time?

  • Its definitely from you still getting up in the middle of the night that often.  I would try to offer her more to drink during the day and more to eat, trying to get her to sleep through the night.  Gradually start trying that and if that doesn't work, you're going to have to really try to cold-turkey wean her (sleep training) at night so she will take more during the day.  LO sleeps pretty well through the night but sometimes she'll still wake up in the middle of the night and I feel the difference during the day.  Good luck.

  • Maybe your iron is low or your vit d. I know that my iron is super low and I have been feeling (granted I'm pregnant) but still my Dr had advised me to take iron for up to a year pp or until LO was weaned from the breast. Just a thought.

  • I started taking B12 and feel way better. I was so tired all of the time. My multivitamin had iron but no extra B vitamins. Waking up 2-3 times a night seems like so much to me. My LO sometimes wakes up one time around 4 am. But we are on a regular toddler meal routine with BM/WCM bottle mixes or sippy cups 2 times a day and nursing morning and night. Since moving to this type of eating she stopped waking up more than one time. Good luck!
  • i also am tired all the time.  and like pp, i am anemic.  i do take a daily iron supplement.  and my multivitamin has B12.

Your schedule sounds a lot like ours. Most of the time I am somewhat tired (like "oh a nap sounds nice") but not exhausted. If I forget to take my vitamins I get SUPER tired and feel like just walking around is exhausting. Any chance you could be anemic? After 2 or 3 days of taking my vitamins again (I take a multi and an iron supplement) I start to feel human again - its a huge difference for me.

  • I Agree with what everyone said. Maybe schedule an appointment with your doc for BW to check for anemia. Also, even though you are only up for a few minutes, you are disrupting your sleep several times a night which can cause you to be tired! I know it sucks trying to get her to sleep without nursing when you are tired, but in the long run, that might be the better solution.

  • Good point about the vitamins. I'll check my multivitamin. I also need the resolve to cut out the night feedings and that will help too. I started pushing them back by half hour each night and I gave up when I got so tired.

  • I do. Or sometimes awake but just no energy.

  • I feel tired pretty often. I did have a physical recently and all of my blood work came back normal. DD finally stopped waking during during the night to eat right around Mother's Day (the BEST present!), so I'm finally getting to sleep for a solid 8 hours most nights, which definitely helps.

I'm not going to tell you to exercise because you said not to, but I will say that I feel so much better on the days that I do exercise. We recently bought an Ibert bike seat for DD and I've been biking with her on most days. She loves it and so do I!

When DS was still waking multiple times a night until 9.5 months, yes, I was tired all the time. Your sleep is being interrupted and your not getting a good nights sleep.
  • Another idea to try for feeling sleepy:  Try to eat an apple instead of coffee.  I always feel a million times better when I do this.  I still love my coffee, but the apple helps.  The ultimate solution lies in solving the sleep issues, though.  Night wakings were leaving me feeling aweful.  Once they were cut out, I felt much better.
