Last week my husband and I came up with baby names and agreed we are not changing them because they "stuck" with us. We shared them with our parents who absolutely love the names.
However, last night I shared the name for a girl via txt with my SIL. Her reply:
"NO NO NO!!! You can't use ______ !!! That is MY name I have picked for a girl you cannot STEAL it!!!"
Seriously? I have never heard this from her before, nor is she pregnant, or even married. She claims the name has been picked out for her girl since she "was 10". Luckily, my Mom, and MIL both say ignore her and don't change the name, she can deal with it. I agree, but I can't get over her reaction. Totally immature and selfish to me. It's a fairly common name and it is popular so it's not like I "stole" some obscure name only she would know. Now I am just worried about dealing with drama I do not need from my SIL and I am NOT changing the baby's name. Too bad!
Re: Are you kidding me??
That's what my MIL said.

Same here. I have 2 cousins named Colleen, 2 cousins and an aunt Kate/Katie, my mom and a cousin Kathleen, an uncle and cousin Kevin, and an uncle and a cousin Michael. Apparently we are not very original in our family. Your SIL is being immature and needs to just deal with it. I am glad you aren't caving and thinking of changing the name. She can still use it if she ever has a girl, or she can pick something else.

How old is she? She sounds like a child.
This happened to us exactly like you described.
I had just found out I was pregnant, and we decided that we would name our baby Abigail if she was a girl.
My sister, who was neither pregnant nor trying at the time, got so mad at us that she wouldn't speak to us, because she wanted to use that name.
Then she was mad because, since she was older than me, she thought she was supposed to have a baby first.
Now, she and her DH got married in May 2009, and she was on BCPs so she wouldn't get KU... and she even had an affair somewhere along the line.
I married DH in December 2009, so it's not like me getting pregnant was some huge unexpected thing.
DH said she should have been at home f-ing her husband instead of out messing around with some other guy if she wanted to have a baby so badly.
But anyway... I say whoever gets KU first gets to pick names first.
My sister did start trying after she heard we were naming DD Abigail.
She had a boy. He's two months younger than Abigail.
She's got plenty of time to meet and marry a guy who has an ex named ______.
Seriously, how does she even know she'll want to name a DD that name when the time comes? I "picked" my DD's name when I was 15, but when she came out it just plain wasn't her name.
It is so crazy and immature! She is not anywhere near being ready. I love your Dollywood pic btw!!

26..I was a bit thrown off by the immaturity

Am I the only one who wants to know the name??? OP, please share!
As for SIL, she can shove it. I think it's dumb when someone claims a name.
HAHA! How funny is that....that's our name :P
Due 12.12.12
How old is she, like 15? Sheesh...
I say use the name; if she has a problem with it, that's all on her. Besides, it's not like she can't use it later anyway...
this. I mean really what will she do when her daughter meets another person with the same name? I actually find it cool when I meet people with the same name especially the spelling
If I were you I would look up how many girls in the US already have that name in send her a text back saying... "Guess what! Your secret name is already in use. ___ many women are already named ____."
What she said was so stupid. No one can "steal" a name.
Wow... Maybe she's feeling a little jealous. Still, that isn't an excuse for her to pitch a fit! She'll get over it eventually, especially when she sees your sweet LO for the first time.
no, she was being serious
