Recommended your iPad or Kindle Fire

DH has been wanting to buy me an iPad for the longest time, but I have resisted b/c they are so expensive. Lately though it seems like it might be a good idea of something I could use to read books/mags and watch videos while I am BF, as well as a handy device for tracking feedings, changes, etc. It would also be something Peanut could grow into, helpful for looking up recipes, etc.  I'm still not comfortable with the idea of spending that much money, so he suggested I look at a Kindle Fire. (He also said something about an Android tablet.) So my question is this...What kind of device/tablet do you have, and why do you like/dislike it?

  • I actually have a nook color and am on it right now as we speak. I love it
  • Loading the player...
  • I have an iPad and I love it. Pros are that it does nearly everything I want my desktop to do and it's small. Cons are that you can't play DVDs, you can't use Flash and it's super easy to drop, so get it a really good cover, not the crappy one that just looks cool - it's magnetic and folds up on itself, don't get that one, it really stinks.

  • My husband has an iPad and I have a kindle fire. It's hard to use the kindle after using the iPad. It works, but I prefer the iPad. In fact, I find I use my iPhone more than my kindle.

  • I use an old school kindle, but I only use it for books/novels.  I am mad jealous of DH's IPad and have already made him promise me IPad dominion while I am in the hospital.

  • I would go with the iPad. I bought an android tablet for about $300 and I absolutely HATE it. I am not very impressed with the kindle fire, but LOVE the iPad! I should have went with it in the first place! I have found that even though more expensive apple is the best!!

  • Wow, it looks like this is an Apple fan club! :) Thanks for your input. We're hopefully going to pop by Staples today to look at some tablets, but it sounds like we may be ordering a refurb iPad. (Thanks also for the cover suggestion. Some of my coworkers have that folding magnetic one for their personal iPads, and I wondered how effective it really is vs the heavy duty bumper-type ones that they put on the ones for our kindergarteners.)

  • Lurker here. :) But I am lurking from my iPad.

I'd definitely say go with the iPad. I've used various tablets, but the iPad is just simply the best one. I think that you really get what you pay for, and there are very few things I've wanted to do that the iPad limited me on (printing, flash player, some websites are not optimized, it's not good for long typing - thus why I mostly lurk, sometimes it gets annoying when you go to a website and it sends you to the "mobile" version instead of regular - this is mostly gmail and such).

But I use it exclusively because it really does a great job at everything else. If I need to print or type something very long, I'll get on my husband's computer. But that happens very rarely. My iPad has replaced a computer for me at home.
