My May baby became a June baby on June 1st at 8pm weighing 8lbs 12 ozs and 20 in long!
I went in early for my noon induction on Friday morning feeling really great and calm. Once we got settled in to wait I decided to lay down and rest since it would be a long day. I started feeling some period cramp type cramps in my lower back but not too bad. When the nurse came in to start everything about 30 minutes later she said I was already having contractions pretty regularly! I guess my body just waited until we got there to start labor.
She checked me and I was still a 4 like I was the week before and posterior. She went ahead and gave me the lowest dose of pitocin to help things going. Things definitely picked up then. Yowza! Contractions hurt! I had them pretty strong for about 2 hours. For some reason I thought the nurse wanted me to wait for an epidural, so when my mom came in and asked why I hadn't gotten one I was surprised when the nurse said I could have one. I think I was just out of it. Once she said that we got the ball rolling and I got an epidural pretty quickly. It was HEAVENLY! I can't imagine life without epidurals. They are amazing! Mine kicked in right away and I could have kissed the lady that gave it to me. After it kicked in, I rested and visited with my family. A couple of hours later, I heard a pop and felt a gush. I guess Beck had kicked hard enough that it broke my water and we heard it through the monitor. Ryan heard it across the room! The nurse came and checked me and said "Oh my, you are an 8!" I still couldn't believe how good I was feeling. About an hour later she asked if I was feeling pressure. I told her I thought I was a little but I didn't know if it was wishful thinking. She checked me and I was a 10! We had to wait for the doctor to get there but I felt good and didn't feel the need to push so it was fine. I ended up pushing for 2 hours (with a 30 minute break for my doc to emergency deliver twins on the hall). It was hard but I didn't feel any pain (still loving the epidural). Once he came out Ryan and I had a wonderful hour bonding with him while she stitched me up...for 45 minutes
Apparently big headed babies do run in my DH's family - good thing I love that man so much. I ended up tearing alot inside and had a hematomin (sp?). My doc said he was a big baby for my body. I really cant complain though because I didn't feel any stitching (thank you again epidural!) and today I have been on meds. He is totally worth it anyways, sweet baby boy!
My total labor ended up being 8 1/2 hours long. Beck is feeding well and we are about to settle in for hopefully a few hours of sleep. I will post a pic once we get home. Yay for outside babies!!!
