Is anyone else dealing with this? LO sleeps great and is not fussy at all, but will only sleep if someone is holding him. DH and I are taking shifts at night and it's so exhausting. I am BFing and I don't mind the nightly feedings, but I desperately need to sleep in between them! Does this get better? LO is only five days old but I'm afraid of how long this will last.
Re: LO will only sleep in our arms. Help!
Yes, it gets better. 5 days isn't very long. Anything that happens in the first few weeks...even months...can't really be considered a routine. He needs time to adjust. He just spent the last 40w suspended in a warm bath, and now he's out in the cold with arms and legs that don't do what he wants them to, and he feels the he heaviness of his own body. Try swaddling. Most babies Love this. If you aren't worried about nipple confusion, give him a pacifier when he goes down. That will allow him to comfort suck. I used this in the hospital really well, but ended up with minor nipple confusion and had to stop.
Mine also seems to prefer his PNP to his crib. He'll sleep for 3-4 hours in it.
Are you swaddling??? Honestly, it makes the biggest difference in the world. Basically they will wake themselves up if not swaddled but as soon as they are nice and snug they feel safe and womb like. I would try that.
We have the summer swaddle pods which have Velcro and they work great!
You might try the 4 S's-
Swaddle, Sucking (Pacifier), Swinging, Shhhhh-ing (White noise on a sound machine).... One or any combination of these might do the trick. Our son loved to be swaddled with white noise. He would take a pacifier and then spit it out when about to doze off to sleep. He didn't need the swinging, but we would have added it next had those three not worked. Once we started this he started sleeping 6-8 hour stretches at night vs the 2-3 hours of restless sleep before.. Hope that helps
We love the Rock N Play too!
