formula foam question

Hello

I am a FTM and I am using the Similac Sensitive for fussiness and gas formula as well as breast milk that I am pumping throughout the day.

When I am making a bottle that seems to be a lot of foam that appears and I have to either spoon it off or pour it into another bottle whilst holding back the foam/bubbles with a spoon.  Is this normal?  I feel like I am doing some thing wrong as this really seems odd to me to have to do this.

It looks like I am making my baby a latte every time.

Thanks for your help.

Kelly

Re: formula foam question

  • I get foam too but I don't bother removing it.  The milk is heavier than the foam so the baby gets that first and eventually the foam goes away.

  • Formula does that from what I have seen it has  to be shaken, where breastmilk is swirled..when I have seen formula by , all I think is more air, more gas...I fed her formula until my milk came in, but every drop of cholostrum I could get, I would mix a small bit of formula with it and feed it to her....

but what pp said, i never thought of it that way.. makes sense

This. If it really bothers you, you can also add Mylicon (simethicone) drops and it clears up the foam/bubbles instantly.

  • My son is on simalac neosure. The foam settles a few after making it. your just wasting formula.

    This.

We pre-make formula bottles and put them in the fridge. That way the bubbles have time to settle... Bottles are good in the fridge for 24 hours. I just pull one out about an hour before feeding and let it come to room temp (no warming of bottles). If I forget I just run it under hot water in the sink for a min to take the chill off

  • I'm lurking because I'm board. Either swirl the bottle to mix it or stir it up with a fork. It won't bubble.
