Can you still feel the baby??

Hi Mamas

So i am confused as to what to do. I am 37 weeks now. They tell me as she gets bigger i will be able to feel her less but then they say if I feel her move less I should call my midwife? We had a scare a few weeks ago when I didnt feel her for a whole day. We went and had a non stress test and an ultrasound and she was totally fine and moving all over the place, I just couldnt feel her. The next day and weeks after I felt her fine. Then yesterday we had our OB apt. they did another non stress test and ultra sound and again she was movin all over, her fluid was great etc. But then today I havent felt her much. I ate cotton candy, had a cold soda put the belly buds on (Like last time) but im not feeling much at all, even though last night she was like a caberet dancer! We dont want to keep driving to the hospital and spending hours there but I also hate to have something be wrong. Do you feel your babies the same every day? How long should I wait before I get worried, I know I felt her this morning, had a few contractions i think this afternoon but havnet felt much movement since...

Re: Can you still feel the baby??

  • There are super active days and then there are days where he is very lazy, but you should still get 10 movements in a 2 hour period when your LO is most active. If you don't then just call, better safe than sorry. Also, no one is going to give you a hard time for being careful.

  • She is pretty active, but it depends on each baby. I read that some babies get more active towards the end while others don't move as much...

There is a lot of subtle movement too, that I can only feel with my hand on my belly. Maybe your baby is just getting big, but if you are concerned you should call.

  • Yes, she's still extremely active. I too have heard that fetal movement may decrease as baby's arrival date becomes closer

  • i only do counts when i feel him move on his own. as in, i don't just sit down and decide to do a kick count, but if i feel him move, i sit and wait until i get 10 movements. honestly, it usually only takes about 10 minutes. that being said, there are times where i don't feel him for hours. and there are movements, like a pp said, that i don't "feel" unless i have my hand on my belly. i don't think quantity has decreased, but quality has for sure. i don't get any quick or sharp movements - just rolls and twists, and sometimes it's just pressure as he pushes up against my hips..

  • I don't do kick counts at all - my OB never mentioned it, and I decided it wasn't worth the stress to me.  Throw in the fact that I have an anterior placenta and didn't feel him until really late anyway, so I could easily freak myself out about it.

That said, I can still feel him move, though some days more than others.  Some days, I may only feel him once or twice.  I had a scheduled ultrasound at my appointment last week, and the sono tech mentioned that he was moving all over the place, which was so strange, because I couldn't really tell.  So I guess it just depends on how he's moving as to how well I feel it.  I do tend to notice feet in my ribs/stomach more than anything else at this point.

  • My LO's movement has definitely decreased, but I can still feel it.  I say, you have tried all your tricks (drinking something, using the bathroom, lying still quietly, music, etc). and still get no movement, and if you're still worried... always call your medical provider.

  • My Dr's advice: " We would rather have you come in 100 times and not have a problem then not come in once and that one time the baby is in distress."

  • Last night I was having BH like crazy and I could see baby rolling around.  It was freaking me out!

I'm still feeling her roll/move/kick pretty frequently, though.  I think she might be finally starting to drop, as I woke up from my nap yesterday afternoon and could miraculously breathe a little better, and now my pelvis is kind of achey!  I can only hope!  I have missed taking deep breaths!
