OK, April Mamas, Do You Consider Your LO a Toddler Yet?

Giselle will be 14 months old next week, I can't even fathom calling her a toddler!!!  When do you consider a child a "toddler"?  Maybe I am still holding on to the word "baby" because she is growing up so fast.  She is still a baby, right?Confused

So tell me....do you refer to your LO as a "baby" or "toddler"?

  • it's weird.. she's so big compared to the "babies" at day care but so small compared to the "toddlers"... however, she is going into the toddler room this month, so I guess she's a toddler Crying

In my mind, LO is an over-sized baby who wears toddler clothes :/  Definitely bittersweet!

  • Even though technically she's a toddler, I still consider her a baby.  I think it's because she's so tiny.  Right now she is only 15 lbs, 15 oz and is in the 5th percentile.  When I see her next to baby's/toddlers that are her same age or even a little younger they look huge compared to DD.  She's still in her infant seat.  Maybe when I have to move her into a convertible car seat I'll start calling her a toddler :)

Chase is not really walking yet, though he took 8 steps last night.  There are times I look at him and see a baby and times I see more of a toddler.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to be calling him my Baby Boy when he gets married!

I go back and fourth.  She is a toddler because she toddles around but she is still our baby.

  • I want to call her a baby...but I can't anymore.  She is running around the house like crazy, using words, signs, and pointing to get what she wants!  I don't know how it happened but in one very short year she's gone from a little adorable munchkin blob I could set down anywhere to a crazy monkey who is always on the go.

  • My baby moved to the toddler room at school last week.  My baby stopped nursing this week.  My baby desperately needs a haircut but I can't bring myself to do it because for me that is the last of his baby-ness left. <sigh>

This. Amelia has technically been a toddler for the past three months when she started walking independently. Owen only recently started walking independently more often than crawling. So, yes, they are toddlers but we still say, "the babies need to eat", "one of the babies is stinky", "which baby is up first?". We called our oldest "the baby"  for a while. I can't remember when we stopped. Probably about age 2 or so. Then he was Little Man and now he's "the big one". Lol

  • No, not really.  I mean, in the most literal sense of the word he is because he just started taking steps and so he toddles everywhere, but I really don't consider him a toddler.  He is still bald as a cue ball, mostly crawls everywhere, and "says" cute baby babble.  And I also think a lot of it has to do with he is my last child, but I still definitely consider him a baby.

  • I still call her a baby and I'm pretty sure that I will always call her my baby because she is for sure my last baby and the last baby on my husbands side. Potentially the last baby for both sides so she'll probably be 25 and still my "baby".
