BF supply drop ... normal?

Anybody pumping during the day and notice their supply significantly drop at around 9-10 months, yet LO seems to be fine? (with no or little formula supplementation?)

Re: BF supply drop ... normal?

  • My went down a little at this point as well. However, when I went to our 9 month apt., our pedi. also recommended we cut her milk back to 20-24oz. a day and we had been doing around 35oz. a day, so she dropped a lot (and I cut a pump session out) and added a lot more solids. :)

  • I was consistently pumping 11-13 oz a day until about that time.  Over the last month, it's decreased to 9-11 oz total and usu on the low side.  LO is almost 11 mo and takes in ~14 oz a day while I'm gone.  I have a freezer stash so we supplement with that.  The doc at our 9 mo appt told us 16 oz a day for LO at this age was ok.  I figure with nighttime nursing, LO is still getting ~20 oz a day.  I solely nurse on the weekends and last week I had vacation and LO only nursed and he didn't seem hungry so I assume he's getting what he needs.

  • mom6311 & genekelly, thanks!  I believe it is within the range of normal, but I'm a worry-wort so thank you for the reassurance. Smile

  • I noticed bit of a drop just recently -- figured with lo sleeping more at night and hard to corral during the day it was a low demand but I keep my am pump every day and that has made up the extra I need for daycare
  • Thanks, bluejetta.  My extra pump at my bedtime makes up our daycare gap.

I have to admit... I am very much looking forward to giving up the pump in 2 months...
