Breastfeeding

question for moms who have weaned

I weaned my DD at 14 months. Slowly cut out a feeding, yada yada till we were down to one a day and from there went to maybe once or twice a week. My boobs adjusted well, i never really had any troubles. It's been 9 days since our last nursing session. For the past 3 days, my left breast has been sooooo sore! It has been extremely tender to touch with hard spots throughout. I know it's because it 'needs nursed', but DD won't have anything to do with it. I just assumed after 3 days the dang thing would go back to normal! I've tried cold showers and cabbage leaves. I was considering pumping just for a minute or two to get some relief, but I'm guessing that will only continue my milk production??? Anyone have some advice...something i'm missing? Thanks, ladies!

Re: question for moms who have weaned

  • I had a similar problem when I weaned DS. I had to pump because it hurt like hell! I was producing such a small amount though it didn't matter too much.

I weaned almost two weeks ago.  I just stopped feeling sore a day or two ago.

  • With DD1 I EP so when I was ready to be done I just kept dropping pumping sessions and then when I got down to one time a day I would shorten my pumping sessions.  I would probably pump enough to relieve the engorgement, maybe 5 or 10 minutes.
