Thanks. What do you use after you wash LO's hair if anything?
I just towel dry it the best I can... put a little of my hommade pomade in it. If I have time I braid her hair that night before bed. I highly reccomend trying braiding if you can. It keeps her hair detangled and managable. I only braid it during the week though because the way she tosses and turns the braids don't really stay and they look a hot mess... LOL. If she were in daycare I would have to do it every night (um - NO).... I don't care what the braids look like at home - for me it just serves a purpose -not for style. On the weekend when we are out an about she just gets a finger comb and a mini afro.
Just remember to always take your time with the comb - otherwise they will fear getting their hair combed and that will just work against you in the future. I usually do her hair while she sleeps in my lap and I take my sweet time while watching the news (DS is sleeping). When we have some place to go she wears her hair out.
My son has hair just like me thick and curly I use the same detangling J&J shampoo .They also have a detangling spray it really works but it dries out my sons hair. If I use the spray to comb his hair which I cant do without the spray I follow it with Dax. I used to use vaselin but it was just too much with alittle. J&J also have a leave in conditioner I bought it but havent used it yet so idk. But as NiniJ55 said its important to briad or twist the hair. I twist my sons hair its such a hassle I cant do it while he's sleeping because he's such a lite sleeper. Thats my free time lol. I dont mean to sound this way because I love my son just the way he is but his hair just feels like a chore lol its such a hassel with him being 4 months.
Re: African American Mommies...
I use J&J also. I use the extra conditioning one for curly hair (attached). For pomade I use a mineral oil with vaseline mixture (unscented).
