Babies: 6 - 9 Months

average amt of solids for 8 month

I'm just wondering how much your LO's eat. My LO is 7.5 months, eating about 32 oz of formula a day and about 15-18 oz of solids. I'm wondering if I should try to bump up the solids. I don't know what's "normal" for his age.

Re: average amt of solids for 8 month

  • DD has about 3oz of solids 3x a day and drinks about 24oz of bm. She will be 8 months in 5 days.

  • She eats 8 oz solids and around 35oz BM. She used to eat 12 oz solids but I didn't like her bowel movements so we cut back.
  • Our LO is eating 32oz of formula and about 6 oz of solids, but he is only 6 months old.
  • You don't need to bump up solids.  Solids right now aren't for nutritional purposes until after 12 months.  I continue to EBF DS and he gets a small amount of finger foods once or twice a day.

Actually, solids are necessary at this age.  According to my pedi, anyway.  By 12 months infants should be able to wean off formula/BM and be satisfied by solids only.  The whole "food before 1 is just for fun" makes no sense.  From 6-12 months is the transitional time where infants should gradually be able to eat more and more solids and less formula/BM.  They can't just flip a switch at 12 months and all of a sudden be satisfied by solids when you've hardly given them any solids before.  They need to gradually transition to this.

    Well, then I stand corrected.

She gets between 26-30 oz of formula a day.  I just stopped nursing 2 weeks ago, so the nightntime feedings have been varying for her.  She gets 3 meals a day and one snack.  We only do pur?es one meal a day now. She gets about 2-3 oz at that time.  She gets about 4 oz of finger feed at her other two meals.

  • My guy eats about 28-32oz of breastmilk a day and he eats 3 meals a day.  We do BLW, so I can't measure in ounces.

I think you should listen to your Pedi.. Our pedi said the same about solids not being for nutritional value until 1 year but more to learn how to start eating textures and tastes. There is no switch but you can start weaning to more food when your Pedi says so.
