We are in the process of buying a house. I would like to be more Eco-Friendly. We are going to do a compost, using EF light bulbs, buying EF appliances, plant a garden and start buying more organic fruits and veggies. Is there anything else we could do right away when we move in? We already CD and buy mostly organic meat (raised by family), and I am going to start using mama cloth.
Any suggestions??
Re: What can we do?
My Blog: Naturally Mindful
Make sure the house is insulated well!
As the previous poster said, get some plants to clean the air. The only plant I can think of atm that does this is the spider plant. I know there are lots of others... just slipping my mind. lol
Everything the others said, plus I recommend updating the weather stripping around your doors, and caulking around your windows. Tiny leaks in those areas can make a big difference in terms of energy use.
Also, elephant palms do really well indoors
Thank you for all the ideas. Yes, we will be scrubbing the house, it is a short sale so the prior owners left ALL their dirt. I really want to go in and clean, but it's not ours, yet (keep your fingers crossed). We are also getting married in a few months and I registered for glass storage and cloth napkins for the kitchen, I want to get rid of all plastic. I also want to make my own reusable snack bags at some point. I will get some plants as soon as possible. We are going to get new patio doors because the seal is bad on the old ones. I will look into the paint and calking the windows and doors.
Thank you again for the ideas, if you think of anything else please let me know.
Congrats on the new house! Your list of things to do is pretty good!
You could install a clothes line and line dry some of your clothes.
I want that too, can't wait to be able to sun our CDs.
