Newborn Photoshoot

We have our newborn photoshoot tomorrow. Seems like LO has some good days and some bad days with fussiness. Any tips/tricks or ideas to use or keep in mind to make everyone happy tomorrow? I'm asking because we tried to take a few pictures in the hospital and it backfired hardcore--she screamed the whole time and we got ZERO pictures. TIA :)

Re: Newborn Photoshoot

  • Our photographer told us in advance to wait and feed LO right when we got there for our session, so he was happy and then would be sleepy.  She also used a heater and white noise machine, which helped get him to sleep and keep him sleeping.  Also, not sure if you are using a pacifier, but it really helped during our session.  Have fun tomorrow!

  • My mother in law is a photographer and we just did our newborn shoot the other day. She had me feed her as Much as she would eat so her belly was nice and full and she was very sleepy, and I also had to nurse her for a few minutes right as we started, just to top her off and it worked like a charm. She slept through the whole 2 hour shoot and let us move and pose her :)

  • Oh and if baby starts to wake and fuss, making a "shhhhh" noise in their ear while holding your hands on their body was another tip she uses that worked great!

Good stuff! I'm hoping the photog will know how to pose her because I'm clueless! BTW when my sister had the photoshoot with her baby, the photog swore by a hair dryer set on low, so we plan to try that one as well.

  • Our newborn photo shoot is tomorrow too. I'm actually a little worried about it. DD has been extra fussy today. And, to make things more complicated, we'll have DD1 there for a sibling's pic, and she's only 23 months! It's going to be interesting.

  • Our photographer had to get a bit creative. DD was extra fussy so I semi-swaddled her in a blanket and held her. The photographer draped a white blanket over my legs so I wasn't visible in the pictures.

All of this, turn off the ac, wait to feed LO and use a space heater near them.  Keep them warm and fed and you should be ok.

Also, if you have a hand warmer (you know those air activated hand warmer packs you can use during a cold football game), place that on LO's heel, makes my LO go right to sleep.

Your photog should def know how to pose them else they shouldn't be a newborn photog. Also, the 3 photogs we looked into didn't want the mama in the room as baby can smell mama and wake up.
