Why hasn't RE talked about meds for IUI with me?

So we are doing our first IUI in Sept. I ovulate pretty regularly and just had endo removed and tubes cleared, so RE thinks I will have no trouble getting pregnant with donor sperm since our only problem now seems to be azoo. I'm new to IUI and still learning a lot, but Re hasn't mentioned anything about me starting meds or anything beforehand. I don't have another appt scheduled with him before I meet with the nurse in Sept., so my question is, do all women doing IUI need to be on meds? Or is there a chance that he wants to try without first to see if I get pregnant on my own? TIA

    There is such a thing as an unmedicated IUI.  But the meds for an IUI are usually minimal to start (e.g. taking clomid or femara CD3-8).  You won't start meds until after your baseline appointment (u/s or u/s + b/w)

    Testing - Me ok, gluten issue? DH - borderline count, low motility
    4/28/11 IUI#1 = BFP!(5/25), EDD 2/2/12 - m/c 5w3d
    7/3, 7/31, 9/25 - IUI#2-4=BFN
    IVF#1 - 1 blast = BFP!! (12/30), EDD 9/9/12, confirmed c/p 4w2d
    FET#1 3/2/12 - 2 blasts =BFP!! EDD 11/18/12, us#1 = twins! Confirmed m/c 5w6d
    4/20-surprise BFP and another c/p 4w2d
    FET#2 7/16/12 - 2 blasts = BFN
    FET#3 8/20/12 - 1 blast - BFP!! Beta #1-2=177, 354
    1st u/s 5w6d, one beautiful little HB :), 2nd u/s 146bpm
    baby girl born 5/10/13

    TTC#2 since 12/17/2014, Cycle 8
    Repeat Testing...FSH=12, AMH=3.8, AFC=28. 
    IUI#5 5/10/15- c/p?
    IVF#2 8/19/15 - cancelled due to cysts
    IVF#2 take two 10/2015 - 5 blasts frozen
    FET#4 12/11/2015 - BFN - 4 blasts remaining
    FET#5 2/18/16 - BFP!!!  Beta1-3, 126, 250, 745!!

    My IUI was pretty low key. I called on the day AF started to make an appointment for day 3. Had an u/s and b/w done on day 3 and then got the all clear to take clomid day 5-9. Starting on day 11 or so I started going daily to watch the follies and lining and have blood work done. Then poof, it was IUI day. Not a lot of lead up, just a few pills and then a lot crammed into a few days!
    Married 6/08, TTC 7/09
    MC w/ D&C 3/11 ~ 9.5 weeks
    CP/MC 1/12 ~ 5 weeks
    2 IUI's w/ BFN
    IVF 6/12 ~ 8R, 0F ~ Rescue ISCI gave us 3dt of 2 (6 cell, 9+ cell)
    DS born ~ 3/3/13
    IVF 6/14 ~ Operation Sibling ~ 10R, 5F ~ 5dt of 1 Blast
    Beta 1: 1600+, Beta 2: 4588

    Your IUI is 4 months away.  Relax!  There is no reason you need to talk about meds for a procedure that is 4 months away.

    well, that's why I was asking... I actually have no clue how long clomid or whatever takes to go into effect. This is ALL new to me. But thanks.

    Also with your DX being azoo, and using donor sperm, you may not need meds to have a successful IUI.

    Most (all?) fertility meds work within a 28 day cycle - with some only needing a few days to be effective (Clomid, a pill, is taken for about 5 days as an example).

    As PPs said, you won't get the details until closer to your IUI.

    Long story: trying on our own + testing testing testing with 6 rounds of Clomid, more testing, injectables + TI, laparoscopy - one tube blocked, 2 IUIs with Follistim...BFNs.
    RPL testing all normal, Karyotyping normal

    Moving on to IVF.

    IVF #1 April 2012 = BFN, IVF #2 June 2012 = BFP. U/S 7/23 = saw heartbeat but measuring behind. Follow up U/S on 7/30 - no heartbeat. D&C 8/2. Trisomy 12. IVF #3 Oct 2012 = Chemical Pregnancy

    Phone consult with CCRM on 12/12/12 - ODWU 1/4/13 - both tubes clear(!) - AFC 24, AMH 3.2, FSH 9.6, LH 5.4, E2 25. DH has high frag rate but improved!
    IVF #4 March 2013 CCRM. EP protocol w/ Menopur, Gonal-F & Dexamethasone. ER 3/29 & IMSI, PICSI. 43R 13M 10F 6blasts bio'd. CCS testing reveals 3 normals!!!
    FET 5/31/13 of 1 4AA blast - thawed and expanded. 4dp5dt BFP.
    Beta 9dp5dt = 181, 11dp5dt = 427. 1st u/s showed a healthy heartbeat! EDD 2/16/14

    After 4 years of hoping and heartbreak, our sweet little bean was born on 2/19/14
    We are so in love with her.

    Ticker warning...I would ask. Seriously. Unless you want to do it unmedicated. We are a dx of azoo too, but realize, that DD isn't cheap. We needed more targets...or eggs to increase chances of getting a bfp...or like our doc said-more bang for our buck..we got a bfp on cycle #4
    ttc since 10-09 first visit with RE 09-10 ME-everything ok DH- AZOOSPERMIA...biopsy confirmed Sertoli Only Cell syndrome Donor IUI#4 was the charm (8-27-11) with 125iuFollistim/Ovidrel/Endometrin/PIO/vit D beta #1 9/8/11....BFP!!! : ) @ 47.7 beta...#2 9/15/11... 1,998 beta#3 9/22/2011- 27,900 Baby's hb seen @6w2d ! 1-3-2012 20 wk u/s everything lookin' good!     I meant DS isn't cheap. It's not like you can go home and have sex after iui, like someone that doesn't have an azoo diagnosis...We went straight to injectibles. To increase our odds. And, if you have questions about meds, ask your doc or nurse now! It's your right! Whatever you need to put your mind at ease. So what if your iui is 4 months away. : )
