1st birthday suggestions

So I'm starting to plan for LO's first birthday and need some suggestions. My first thought was to go all out big bash type thing and then after hosting my mothers 50th birthday at my house and running around like a crazy women I'm thinking of doing something small with immediate family. I feel like I'd be cheating DS from lots of people coming to share in his day. If we did decide to have a big party it would be like pool/bbq type thing at our house in August and I'm debating on inviting like great grandparents and older guests to come for cake in the evening as I dont think they want to spend all day outside in August. Just tyring to get ideas of what anyone is planning or did for their 1st birthdays?

    We thought about doing a nice sized party out somewhere, then changed it to a small afternoon gathering at my house.  Keeping it simple.  As long as you get pictures and video, you won't be cheating your child out of anything.  Besides, they won't remember it anyway.  If it's too hot outside, we will go inside.  I'm making some salads, quiche and BBQ pork in the crock pot, everything else will be party platters from ShopRite.  If we run out of food, there's always Domino's.  I'm going to make cupcakes so DD can smash one.

    I'm planning to rent a local restaurant party room which is free when you purchase their food. So I'll order pizzas and bring our own drinks (we're allowed).  The only clean up we have to do is paper, decorations and cake.  They do the rest :)  Our home isn't really setup for parties and just immediate family would exceed 20 people.  We're going all out.

    Small party at my house with family and a few close friends, maybe around 25 people or so. Either sandwich platters and some sides, fruit and veggies, or we might do a cookout. We will have the cake etc../party in the sunroom and some food and drinks out on the deck (weather permitting). The kids can play outside, (again weather permitting). We are actually getting a swing/play set put in tomorrow! It is next Saturday and I have a whole lot more to do!
