3rd Trimester

Transverse position - when did baby flip?

I?m almost 32 weeks pregnant, and the baby is in a transverse position (lying across my stomach instead of head down).  I?m hoping he turns head down soon, because this position is very uncomfortable as he?s growing bigger.

Has anyone had experience with a transverse baby at this stage in pregnancy and if so, when did he/she flip?  I?m worried that as he gets bigger there will be less room to move, and hence less room to flip down.

Bonus points to anyone who can tell me how to add a ticker to my profile.  The bump makes things so difficult sometimes.

TIA.

I don't know about the OP, but I'm pretty sure mine is traverse most of the time right now. I can feel his head on left side (round hard thing, like a baseball), and the kicks are all on the right side.

  • Nope I'm not 100% sure, but this he feels very different from my first pregnancy.  With my son I didn't feel as stretched from side to side, and his kicks felt centered, and his hiccups were centered as well.  With this one one, his hiccups are always on the left of my belly and his kicks are on the right side (hope this makes sense, it's hard to explain in writing without pointing to where I'm talking about).  In any case, I have an appt next week, and I'm going to ask my doc what she thinks.

  • Yep, this is what I'm feeling, too.

  • My baby was transverse at 31 weeks.  It was very uncomfortable and his head was pushing outward against my belly so much it hurt to touch it.  I did the "inversion" technique on www.spinningbabies.com and a few days later he had moved to head down.  Good luck!
  • we had an US today! He's head down and to the left. So, he goes diagonal-- bottom left is his head and his body comes across to the top right and his feet and hands are in the top left! I think hes always been head down really because ive always had the biggest kicks to the top right..

  • Dd#2 was transverse from week 32 all the way until the morning of my scheduled c-section. I was prepped for surgery and in the OR when they decided to do a quick u/s to confirm her position and she had flipped to head down!
