My husband's family has a tendency to give EVERYONE two names: birthname and a pet name. The pet name is usually nothing close to the real name. For example Jane will be called Sue. Doesn't even make sense. If they picked normal names, that would be one thing....but for our baby they decided to call him a stupid indian pet name that I HATE. It sounds like someone is peeing. I've asked them twice to not call the baby that because I know that once it spreads, the name will stick. Finally, i gave up and had my husband talk to them. Of course, he can't be firm with mommy dearest. He tells them jokingly and half laughing/half serious that we really don't wnat the baby to be called that name. Today his cousin calls, asking how the the-name-that-must-not-be-used is doing. Then she said that my MIL told her how I didn't like that name. UM YEAH LADY! SO STOP USING IT! It just really irritates me that they know i don't like it and yet they keep doing it AFTER they mention to other people that i don't like it!!
Re: MIL rant....maybe i'm overreacting? I don't care, it's my right!
That's just rude... When people refer to the baby using the not-to-be-used-name look them straight in the eye and say 'I don't like that name, my baby's name is ****'. If they don't get the hint, then clobber them.
I want to know what the name is too!! All I can think of is Squat - but that's probably because that's what my dad called me when I was young.
Whatever it is, coming from someone who was called Squat, it makes for funny stories when the baby grows up.
I'm so sick of people and MIL's. Maybe you should give MIL a pet name that sounds like someone is pooping and see how she likes it.
I'm on a huge rant today after being with my MIL and DH's grandma yesterday, they should have my blood pressure up for at least a week now until I get over the 5 hours I spent with them.

This Cluttered Life
Totally appropriate. People are so rude...
I agree especially since this cousin was rude enough to use the name knowing full well you asked them to stop. Your H is going to get a new nic if he doesn't stand up for you and this baby. If confronting doesn't work, then refuse to even respond to the name. Stare blankly or say do you mean <insert real name> because I don't know why on earth you would refer to my child by any other name. Rename them all Crap Bag if they continue this outrageous behavior, they deserve it.
