Do you make your 4 year old's bed?

Every morning I make DS's bed and I have him come in to help me---trying to teach him how to make his own bed.

What age will kids typically be able to do this on their own---and do it well?

I was just thinking about this the other day. Up until recently, I made DD's bed (she just turned 4 in January) but recently she has shown interest in doing this chore herself so I've been showing her how I do it and I've been letting her do it on her own. I think it's good for her to have some responsibility. The bed is made but not very neatly (not messy either, but there are lots of rumpled sheets underneath the covers! However, I praise her and tell her she did a fabulous job. She seems to enjoy it and take pride in tidying her room so I let her. I work part-time so on the days I'm home (3x a week) she makes her bed and on the days I'm running out of the house to work - either I do it or it gets left unmade!

Errrm, I'm 30 and don't make my own bed unless company is coming over

My girls actually have their quilts tucked in around their mattresses, and sleep on top of them, covered with fleece blankets. So there's really no bed to make.

Pretty close to this. I don't really make my bed and DDs have a fitted sheet and sometimes a comforter that they sleep on top of. I cover them up with their assorted blankets that usually get dragged into the living room, taken to school, etc during the day.

No. I am horrible at making my own bed as well! Mornings are so hectic and I can barely get to work ontime as it is. I probably should make some extra time to do that stuff and set a good example though.

Sometimes I need to help DS1 (4.5), sometimes he can do it on his own. When he does it on his own it doesn't turn out as well as when we do it together, but he has a sense of pride for doing it all himself.

My DS is almost 5 and somewhere in the last year-can't quite remember when, he makes his bed himself. It's not perfect but I think he does a good job.

I used to have her make her bed, but for the past year or so, she's preferred to sleep just on a fitted sheet with no comforter or anything, or she'll sleep on top of her comforter, so there's really nothing to make anymore. Every few days I have her put away the stuffed animals and books that accumulate in the bed, but other than that, it's pretty plain.

When she did make her bed everyday, she did a decent job. I tucked the comforter in at the end, which helped her pull it straight.

We decided that at 4.5 this would be her chore. She can actually do a decent job for a 4 year old. At first she was really excited, then she told me she "didn't want this privilege any more, it's boring to me." But I told her it's her chore. I just don't expect perfection, as long as it's generally straightened out. Good by me. Occasionally she asks for help. Sometimes it's legit and sometimes not. My rule is that she has to try herself and if she's actually struggling because they're tangled or whatever, then I will help.

And no, I don't make mine every day. I'm hoping it's years before she notices this hypocrisy.

I dont make it, he does, most of the time. I have a sign on his bedroom door that says, with pictures, "Make bed, turn off music, go potty".
