Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Large yolk sac... anyone have this? D&C scheduled

I don't want to give up hope on my little bean, but my doctor has already scheduled a D&C for next Thursday. We had our 2nd U/S today and the yolk sac was larger than normal (don't know the size) and my doctor said this almost always means a genetic issue with the fetus. He also was not pleased with the HB (again, don't knwo what it was). I asked for another ultrasound just to make sure. I have one scheduled for Monday.

I have a million questions now that my mind has wrapped around what is happening. This will be my 5th miscarriage, 3rd in a row... This is also our first experience with a specialist.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone had experience with large yolk sacs. Just looking for information.

Thanks

  • If it was me, I'd get another opinion just to be sure there's no chance. It's not over till it's over! I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope there is still a chance everything is ok. But if not, know that we are all here to support you any way we can. We have all been there!

First, I am SO SORRY for all your losses! I am a little confused about what your doctor is doing... there is still a HB, but he scheduled a D&C for next Thursday? This is just my opinion, but no matter what it was, if there was still a HB I would absolutely not go through with a D&C and wouldn't be okay with my doctor scheduling one. You are right to get another u/s and I would have a lot of questions. It's not over til it's over!

I had my miscarriage last week and personally was never told anything about a yolk sac by my doctor, however my sister and another good friend who both had multiple miscarriages both said something about yolk sacs. I specifically asked them before I miscarried if their dr mentioned anything regarding that, b/c they both said that when they miscarried naturally there was a large yolk sac that came out. My miscarriage happened at home at 6w6d (similar time to theirs) and I was expecting to see something like that - could not have been more different! I haven't spoken with my doc about why that is yet (we meet Tues), but am curious. GL with your next u/s, and if there is still a HB keep that baby as long as you can! T&P's your way...

I also forgot to add that with my sister and friend who did see a larger yolk sac when they miscarried at home, their doctors never mentioned anything about it prior.
