I'd really like to do cloth wipes as well as doing cloth diapers. We have some, but not many, and we've got disposables on hand for the first couple of weeks. How many wipes do you usually go through per change? How many wipes should I have if I plan on doing laundry once a day or once every other day? Is this an unrealistic goal to have?

Re: Cloth Wipes
we have about 36 wipes. theyre mostly flannel receiving blankets we just cut up and sewed two layers together. theyre great, and clean sooo much more efficiently/easily than disposable wipes.
laundry every other day is the norm.
eta: even for his hugest of poops, i have never needed more than two wipes.
I use cheap baby washcloths that I got from Amazon and Target. I think I have about 24 and I never have to use more than two for even the dirtiest diaper. (I wash every other day) I think cloth wipes work much better than disposables and I even use them at restaurants to clean ds up after a meal. For the diaper bag I sometimes wet them and put them in a ziploc bag, but usually I wet them as needed. If I don?t have a sink nearby, I just use bottled water. If you cloth diaper it is just as easy if not easier to use cloth wipes as well. You just throw it in with your diapers and you don?t have to make a special trip to the trashcan. Plus disposable wipes can irritate some babies? skin and the smell yucky.
we just stitched them around the edges inside out (like when sewing a pillow), then turned them right side out and sewed an "x" across the center to hold them together. they were done quickly so theyre cosmetically far from perfect.
we just have a spray bottle of water and wet the wipe or his butt as we go.
We probably use 1-3 per change. We have 40 or 50 (I don't remember) and never come close to running out.
I bought washcloths from Ikea. They were $4 for a 10-pack. So for under $20 I got more than enough. So that's another option if you don't want to sew your own.
We have probably about 100! I made them by cutting up a jersey-material sheet set that I got at a thrift store into 6" x 6" squares (which is the easiest project of all time if you have a rolling cutter/slef-healing mat/quilting ruler). I didn't finish then at all, and after the wash I take them straight from the dryer and put them in a dispenser w homemade solution. I don't fold them or anything. I am I just profoundly lazy when it comes to diapering
but the wipes have worked out great so far!
I made that many because it was so easy, not because we really needed that many, but I'm glad I did - we use them to quick-wash face/hands, I use them to wipe my hands off after a diaper change if needed before I can get to the sink, and lots of other stuff.
