Born this morning at 5:38. 4 lbs 2 oz, 17 inches long.
Labor was not that bad. Contractions felt like really bad period cramps. They gave me Nubain at 1:30 because I hurt so bad, then again at 3 but that dose did nothing so they offered the epidural. I asked if I should get the epi so early because I was only 2 centimeters and I didn't want it to wear off before I started pushing, but the nurse said because it was like an iv in my back, they could keep giving me medicine, so I said ok. I had contractions all through the epidural and was afraid I wouldn't be able to hold still, but I did and the epidural was GREAT. As soon as it kicked in, I was able to fall asleep again and woke up for the nurse to check my cervix at 5. I was only 6-7. The doctor came in around 5:30 and checked again before he went to get some coffee and I was 8, but went to 10 while he was checking! We started pushing, and after pushing through 3 contractions, Cam was there! After the epidural, everything was super painless and easy. I'm really glad I went through with it, because I was nervous about getting one. Best decision ever. Not that I think anything is wrong with natural childbirth, I'm just glad I made the right decision for me.
They put him on my chest and he was so tiny and angry! He started screaming right away and I was relieved because that meant his lungs were working ok. I held his little hand before the nurses took him to NICU.
He is doing really well. His second round of blood work came back even better than it was first thing this morning. We get to visit him whenever we want in nicu. He has a cpap machine and a little tiny feeding tube, but doesn't need oxygen. They had to turn down the temperature a little bit in his bed because he's producing so much of his own body heat. He is surprising them with how strong he is for such a little guy! We don't know yet how long he'll be in NICU, but hopefully not the month they were predicting.
