Shadowboxing/Preserving a Christening Outfit

Anyone have a recommendation for a custom framer that will preserve a christening outfit in a shadowbox?  I've read that you must be sure that they hand sew it, and use special glass that reflect UV rays.  And that it costs at least $400.  Anyone ever do this?  I love the idea.....

  • I'm planning on doing it. I have a friend who is a clothing refurbisher/costumer. he said that you don't have to use the UV protected glass if sunlight isn't going to get to it (ours is going in a hallway that gets virtually no natural light). It also depends on how you want to have it done, but yes they will probably need to baste stitch it to the background. This is not unusual.  you will also want to take it down every few years and have it redone. The fabric will eventually pull on itself and could tear.

The dress my son wore is the same one I wore and it was my grandfather's and it's almost 100 years old, was hand stitched by my great grandmother including the lace, so I am with you, make the investment so it will last lifetimes.
