Daycare/Preschool Situation - the good and bad news

We have been going to the same in-home daycare since dd1 was 12 weeks old.  We moved about 15 minutes from them this winter and since we now live 2 minutes from work (DH and I both work for the same school), she asked us if we would be returning next year.  Apparently, she was going to be over for babies and she thought maybe we would be looking for something closer.  She didn't want to get rid of the new family if we were leaving.

The Good News:  The other family left, so I don't even have to think about this right now.  We LOVE her and trust her 100%.  DD1 loves the kids there and I would hate pulling her out of there.  Even with the extra 30 minute drive in the morning, its so worth it.  She is $100/week cheaper than anything else I could find near us.  I was getting really nervous about bringing dd2 to someone that we don't even know (which is strange, since I basically did that with dd1!)

The Bad (Not really related to the above): I don't know if you remember, but my FIL had a stroke in December.  He is finally home as of last week (!!!) but MIL will not be able to bring DD1 to preschool anymore (she used to take dd1 2x a week and then bring her to a separate preschool from daycare).  Since its only a half day preschool, neither my H or I can take her.  So, we now have to find a new preschool.  We loved her school and the teachers, so it makes me sad.  Also, we have to send her to a full day preschool, which will be more expensive.  With adding a dd2 and full time now for dd1 and a new house, I am so worried about our expenses (hence my post yesterday about considering not returning to work next year - which is still up for debate).

So much information and change to process today!  Going to look at a new preschool on Monday.  Keep your fingers crossed that we love it!

  • Aw, I feel your pain. Our original day care plan fell through, and now we are frantically looking for a new place for in the fall. Finances, finding the right situation, etc. It stinks. Chin up, we'll make it!
