Yes, I'm posting again, but at this point I have nothing better to do than sit here and wait to give birth. Anyways, I just realized that I now have over 10 handmade, special keepsake baby blankets with more on the way. I have no idea what to do with them all. By the time I have this baby, I will have about 20, not to mention the blankets I picked out because they were cute. And I can't ask people to stop because they are in the process of being made with tender loving care. I'm afraid I'm going to have to get 20 separate baby portraits done with him on each person's blanket. Anyone else get way to much of one particular thing?

Re: Gift surplus
We got way more towels, washcloths, and recieving blankets than we knew what to do with. We were able to return some of them and get store credit, but we still have a ton. And DH opened a whole pack of white newborn onesies without realizing we already had a ton, so now we're stuck with so many extras I'm afraid we'll never use (LO's already estimated to be about 8lbs, so I don't know how many newborn sized items she'll actually be able to fit in).
Are all your baby blankets about the same size? I have recieved a couple hand-made blankets as well, but luckily my mom always makes her blankets big, so LO won't be able to even really use it in bed until she's a toddler, and it'll last her for a while.
I liked all of the blankets that I got for my son. I either put the blanket on the floor and let him have play time/tummy time. Or I put the blanket on him in his carseat, almost like he had covers in a bed. It drove me crazy how many clothes I got for him.
I do find with my daughter--this time around--I really like every gift that I am getting for her. I think with my son --I was more focused on getting the necessities--and with my daughter--we already have the necessities--and I can enjoy the "PINK" outfits a lot more. I am a ham though--I am having so much fun with dressing my daughter up like a baby doll in her "PINK" outfits.
I got a lot of handmade blankets, too. Like you said, they're made with love, which makes them precious to me. A plus is that you'll have lots of choices for blankets to use that can get switched out when one gets dirty, without needing to do laundry right away... there are so many uses for blankets that I'm kind of spreading them around the house/car/etc for different purposes.
Like another poster experienced, some of ours were bigger than others. The biggest ones I'm planning to use as a throws over the glider rocker, then maybe one or two will go in the back of the car in my general baby kit (I have a car organizer that I'm planning to use as a road-trip diaper bag of sorts to save having to pack one everytime we take a trip out to grandma's or other out of town relatives), and others may just end up in a linen drawer while I figure out what use I will have for them.
We got tons of blankets and washcloths.
Fortunately I got a variety of types of blankets (muslin, flannel, fleece, etc) so I hope to use them depending on the weather. I did return some though. We also got two handmade ones which are beautiful.
For the washcloths I only opened some. I have some still in the packages that I will probably end up returning to BRU.
I wouldn't worry about taking pictures with every blanket. I would just write nice thank you notes to the people who are making the blankets.
We got a tonne of wash cloths and blankets, but luckily we bought pretty everything ourselves and were able to tell people what we did and didn't need. We did, however, get crib sheets that I know I won't use, as well as store brand newborn diapers and wipes that I won't use (not being snobby, we just already have a tonne of diapers), and a jolly jumper easy bath thingy (but our tub already has one in it). I just called the community agency in our city (they operate all of the social programs and the food bank) and asked if those were things they might be able to take as a donation and they were elated to accept everything I wanted to bring them.
I was going to bring them to work for our own prenatal program to give to clients (I work in a different community agency), but some of the stuff actually came from my work shower and I didn't want to see ungrateful (I definitely appreciate the generosity, I just know without a doubt there are some things I won't use and I don't want them to go to waste - we don't need anything more, so I'd rather donate the surplus than go through the hassle of exchanging and store credit, etc etc).
Donating is a really good idea, I'll bet our local women's shelter could use any baby surplus I end up with.
I was surprised by how many clothes we got too! I guess people just really like buying tiny baby clothes.
Same here. I have so much duck stuff and that was the theme of my shower so it was overload! I like it don't get me wrong but I really want to go crazy buying pink or blue!
I got 8 hooded towels at one of my showers (the same shower) - although that included a pack of 2 and a pack of 3. This was in addition to one I got at Christmas. I returned the packs since I thought the individually packaged towels were more likely to be better quality. So we have a nice stash of 4.
I also got 6 crib sheets. Three of them match our nursery theme (airplanes), one was another gift from Christmas so that can't be returned, and I already opened one of the other ones. But I'll probably return the last unopened one because 5 really seems like plenty.
I ended up with three exact duplicate items - one, ironically, which wasn't even on my registry. So I returned one of the duplicates of each item.
Aside from that, there really wasn't a whole lot of excess. I got three baby blankets, two of which I registered for, but I figure we'll use them all. I also received a handmade quilt which is beautiful. I had originally planned on making this baby a quilt, since I made one for our nephew who was born last summer, but felt I had enough things to do before he gets here.
I ended up with a ton of outlet safety plugs, of all things. And, DH's boss gave him a box full of that and other safety items (cabinet latches, door knob cover things, etc.) that he didn't need any longer at his house. The stuff from the boss was actually more than we needed, so I ended up returning all of the ones I got as gifts at my shower. I also got a ton of clothes - and as baby was estimated to be at 8lbs, 13 oz yesterday, I'm doubting he'll be able to wear any of the NB stuff.
