Indoor activities for toddler in Center City?

I am struggling to provide indoor activities for my daughter in the hot summer days in Center City; I wanted to do Gymboree but she naps from 10-11 am which effectively rules out more than half of the classes available for her age. I will be trying The Nest, but wanted to see if anyone had any good ideas for playgroups, storytimes, or Gymboree alternatives easily accessible from downtown. The suburban libraries seem to have lots of options and I keep thinking there has to be something I'm missing downtown!

Also, does anyone have a membership to the Please Touch Museum? Have you been to their storytimes? Any overall comments as to whether this is worthwhile for a 12-15 month old?

 Thanks!

  • I am a PTM member- I have a 4yr old and a 20 month old.

My 20 month old is just starting to really enjoy the PTM. They have good story times.

Honestly though at the 12-15 mo age range I would just continue doing what YOU want to do and wear her or take a stroller-

check out the new Barnes Museum (it is amazing), does the main library have a story time? (by the fountain?),

When my DD was that age- we were down at the Art Museum at least once a week- and I would wear her/stroll her around and I would talk to her. It was AWESOME having that time to still do more 'me' things- you have PLENTY of time to do the kid stuff- don't worry.

Little Treehouse in Chestnut hill is good for that age.

  • Check out the family programs at the Philadelphia Art Museum. They offer drawing classes for all ages. The Free Library does offer storytime at their branches. I am not sure if you have been to Smith's playground. There have an outdoor playground as well as a indoor playhouse.

  • the Art Museum has a stroller tour once a month, not really for the littles, but my son and my neighbor's daughter always seemed to really enjoy it. You can't wear them on your back, so I would front wear the neighbor's daughter and have my son in his stroller. I think they enjoyed the quietness and people watching.

My son LOVED the PTM at 9 months and I take him all the time he's 22 months now. We try and go at least twice a month and it seems like there is always something new for him even though it hasn't changed.
