2nd Trimester

20 week u/s

I haven't posted in awhile but I just need to talk to someone about this.  I had my 20 week u/s last Sunday and the following Friday I had my check-up.  We found out I have an anterior placenta so thats why I am not feeling a whole lot of movement. The u/s dr. didn't seem concerned about anything so I thought everything was fine, but apparently they found something.

So Friday first the nurse was worried bc my BP was high and she wanted to test me for toxemia, but the DR wants to wait since this was my first high BP.  So I'm on partial bedrest (with a 20 month old mind you) and supposed to eat better.   Then the DR asks if I knew anything about the u/s and proceeds to tell me that my baby has bilateral choroid plexus cysts.  He explained that sometimes it can be related to Down Syndrome/Trisomy 18.  Then he goes on and says sometimes it will go away by itself by at least 35 weeks.  He tells me that he doesn't think I should have any testing for down syndrome bc all the anatomy looked normal.

Has anyone else gone through this???

I am still worried.  I will be 22 weeks on Saturday.  I've been in pelvic pain which they keep telling me is normal and now it feels like my baby is setting right on my hips.  It hurts to lay down and sometimes I feel this weird numbing pain in my right butt cheek.  I can barely go grocery shopping bc it kills my feet and my back.

All I can do is pray for a healthy baby right?  O yah and we are having a boy.  Still haven't decided on a name yet though.

I haven't had an experience like this, but I thought I would reply to say I'm so sorry you had to hear that & I'm praying for you and your family that you have a healthy baby boy.

  • I'm a FTM and haven't been through this.  But, just wanted to say congrats on finding out you're having a boy and wanted to offer my support.

I feel like I remember someone saying there are some non-invasive tests that can help rule out Down Syndrome (blood tests maybe?).  You may want to look into that.  But, it sounds like the doc isn't that worried about it.  You could also see another doc and ask for a second opinion.

    Good luck!

As far as the cysts on the brain my baby has one as well. All my bloodwork and my nt scan had come back normal. I was told by a high risk specialist that it's completely normal in the 2nd trimester. He scheduled me for another u/s 4 weeks from that appt to see if they are gone. Try not to stress the cysts usually go away by themselves.
