For those that know or use a surrogate how much does it really cost? We would use my eggs and dh's sperm because if they are in another persons uterus they work together. The last RE told me it was 75-100k:(

One of the local IVF clinics in my area a few years ago actually had one of their nurses volunteer to be a surrogate for one of their patients that she grew a fond attachment to over the years. The nurse already had 3 kids of her own and was thrilled to do this for them. I found a huge article about it on their website when I was doing research on where we were going to go for our IVF cycle since my original RE retired from doing IVF's and only did IUI's. I know the couple didn't pay anywhere near the costs your RE quoted you.
We visited this clinic but we never went back. The doctor had a very bad bed side manner and pushed donor eggs beyond normal in our initial consult prior to doing any other testing on me. Plus I was only 39 at the time and it really bothered me. Ieft crying and never went back.
Good luck with your search on finding out more info!!
An acquaintance of mine is currently a surrogate and I believe she told me she was paid $25K for it. She doesn't know the couple (well, she does now! But she didn't before hand) and they were matched through a service I think. She has 4 kids of her own and super easy pregnancies which is why she decided to do it. I don't know what the total costs would be on top of that, but I have to figure they would be close to IVF charges plus a little more since there are two women involved. So--best guess is between $50-60K. But that's just a guess.
TTC #1 since 2/2011. Me: Age 36. Stage III Endo and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. IUI #1 March: BFN, IUI #2 April: BFN.
IVF #1: Started stims 7/30--CANCELLED. IVF #1.2: Stims start 10/8/12, ER: 10/20/12; 11R/8M/4F, 5DT: 10/25/12, transfer of a 4AA and 3AB Blast. BFP on HPT 10/31/12; Beta #1: (16 DPO) 954! Beta #2: (18 DPO) 1968! First U/S: TWINS!! A/S: TWO BOYS! EDD: 7/13/13 PAIF/SAIF Always Welcome.
I wish it wasn't so expensive. I know that money includes cost of treatments and compensation for the surrogate but why it costs upwards around $100K, I have no clue.
If it weren't so expensive, I would totally do it. All I want is a baby, regardless of where it comes from.
Pursing Domestic Infant Adoption through a local agency. In the meantime, our dog is our baby. Bumping from Portland, Oregon.
It is typically between $50-80K if you don't have family/friend who will carry for you. There are alot of fees which just seem to add up. I am considering DE which is similar in the ever mounting costs. Here is a breakdown on costs from one agency which handles surrogates and you'll see what I mean:
DOR and AMA
