Baby wants to be held ALL DAY

At what point do you start trying to break this?  LO is 7 weeks and I find it sweet and cute but geez, sometimes I need my arms!  DS is 14 so I realize that this time goes by very quickly.  I'm trying to enjoy every minute of it, no matter what it is.  But....I also know that at some point, LO has to "learn" to be off of mommy (or daddy or anyone else) for a few minutes.  We have all the gear but he hates everything.  Thank God he will go down in his RNP to sleep at night.  Oh, he is in it now too.  Sometimes I get him in it for a nap but most days I don't.  I do have an Ergo, but he sleeps in it so I can't put him in it if it isn't a sleepy time.  I let him cry for a few minutes earlier when he rejected the RNP but I can't stand to hear it longer than a couple minutes.  I want to do what is right.  I didn't have this problem with DS1, he loved the bouncer, swing etc.  Not this one!  Anybody have advice?  If its still too early, then its too early.  I want to know when I should start really working on it.  Thanks!

Re: Baby wants to be held ALL DAY

  • I am one to say you don't try and brake this. Get a baby carrier and wear you baby. Baby will be happy and mama can get some things done. Your baby is still young yet so he will sleep. Enjoy the time that he wants to be held and with his mama now because before you know it he will not want to be held and cuddled. These little one's grow up way to fast. He will grow out of this stage eventually.

This.  My LO is 2 months now and loves being held and also wants me to wants me to walk and hold her at the same time.  I got a Moby Wrap and it has saved me some days.  It is wonderful!  Often times LO will fall asleep while being carried and then will remain asleep when I am up, down, moving, sitting, etc.

A baby carrier is wonderful! I purchased the moby wrap and it's great but I definitely don't use it enough. At this age, if baby needs to be with you, just enjoy it as they can't self soothe or emotionally understand that you and them are not the same. It will soon pass!

  • My oldest was like that for the first three months. I could not put her down, or even sit while holding her unless she was eating, without her screaming. I spent many nights pacing around the house while bouncing her because it was the only way to keep her quiet. As soon as she hit three months, it was like she flipped a switch and became the world's happiest baby. It sucked. I couldn't pee in peace for months, I barely slept, I couldn't stand to put her down long enough to eat unless someone else was there to hold her. But, I think you will know when your baby is ready to become a little more independent. Some babies just have a harder time adjusting to life outside the womb.
