3d ultrasound, baby looks small

in 2nd Trimester

i went in for a 3d ultrasound and the baby looked small and skinny compared to other baby's at 24 weeks. i asked her what he was measuring and she they cant tell me anything like that there. do you think he looks small?

    I wouldn't do a whole lot of comparing between your LO and others. All babies have their own "scale" of which they grow. If your ob has a concern he/she will discuss it with you. Otherwise, you can always inquire about it. But, fwiw, my LO always looked skinny when we had our 4d u/s. I had one at nearly 30w and his face filled out but everything else was skinny. Lo and behold, when he was born he was more than 2lbs less than estimated but he is completely healthy. I never put too much weight on what you see in an u/s because it can all be rather deceiving.

    What did the dr say at your 20w anatomy scan?  I am sure he would have mentioend any concerns then. We did a 4D w/DD when I was 18w, then 28w.  I do recall at 18w, she looked like an alien, although still beautiful to me ;)  By 28w they look like a real baby.  They really have no body fat at this point, so don't worry!

    The person who did my 3D/4D told me he didn't recommend I come for the U/S until I was 27-28 weeks because the babies look more chubby and large.

     

    But I do hope all is well.

    i wouldn't worry.  at 24 weeks the baby hasn't begun to accumulate body fat.

    My picture is of my 3d scan at almost 25 weeks. Its just a close up of his face so I didn't really see how skinny his body was but they did tell me how skinny babies look at this point during 3d ultrasounds. I wouldn't worry.

    They shouldn't withhold the measurements of your baby. They should be estimate the length and weight. Policies discussing this may vary though. At one OB the U/S tech wouldn't tell me anything. At my new DR, the Tech discusses anything she feels she is knowledgeable enough about. But your DR should tell you the your baby's size.

    If they are elective from a place that only does ultrasounds, they are not legally aloud to tell you measurements, its for you to see and get pictures of baby, not for any medical reason.
