Toddlers: 24 Months+

crying at nap and bedtime

Over the past month DS has been sick a few times.  During those times, we would rock him or co-sleep.  Of course, this has backfired on us and now he hates sleeping in his crib.  He clings to me when I put him in.  It's very sad.  However, I have been trying to let him CIO but I can't say I see any improvements (day 3).  Anyone suggest a book I can read? or a better option?  I realized consistency is key and I am doing my best but it's emotionally exhausting for the both of us.

Re: crying at nap and bedtime

  • For CIO we read Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child.

There is a non CIO book called The No Cry Sleep Solution.

DD's been sick and teething too so we're in the same boat, but she's not 100 percent yet so I am still spoiling!  GL

  • Just wanted to tell you that you are not alone!  DD has done the same thing since the weekend.  We let her co sleep with us Saturday night - Which was the first time EVER and now we say "let's go to bed" and start to carry her towards the crib and she gets a death grip and cries.  We just say good night and leave.  I try not to go back in and she cries for no longer than 10 minutes before she is asleep.  I think she just has to learn out to self soothe again....imo.  I know there is nothing wrong with her and she is not hurt so I feel we are doing the right thing by letting her CIO.  Today for example - MIL is here so she wanted to play play play.  I let her because we are flexible like that but then she started falling and crying and just being "drunk baby" so I decided it was time for a nap.  She just now quieted down (about 10 minutes)  GL!  I know CIO and that face they give you is pitiful but doing what your doing is the best.
