VBAC

finding a VBAC dr

How did you all go about finding a dr who does VBACs? I ask because I live in such a big city, calling around doesnt seem reasonable. TIA! :)

Re: finding a VBAC dr

  • I stayed with my ob from my first pregnancy. She was very vbac friendly. You could contact your local ican chapter. They should have a list of doctors to recommend.

  • I contacted a local doula.

I also Posted on a local mom's board asking.

between those two I found a doctor and practice that are supportive of VBACs.

You can also contact your hospital L&D and ask for the names of dr.s that do VBACs. If the nurse is helpful you might even be able to find out who is the most pro-VBAC.

  • ICAN. Go to a local chapter meeting or join them online.

And be careful of recommendations that are "this OB is supposed to be vbac friendly" or "my OB says he does vbacs". Because maybe they do, but only if your baby is estimated to be under 8lb and you go into spontaneous labor by 39wk - you need a recommendation from someone who has actually had or attempted a vbac with that doctor. I know there's one who is always mentioned on my local board as oh yes she does vbac - but no one knows anyone who has had one with her in years and she's never mentioned on the ICAN listserv.

In additoin to the other suggestions, I googled vbac friendly dr. in the area I was looking and found them that way.

    Where do you live?

this is what I did.  I found a local mothers board with multiple suggestions for the same dr.
