Initial Anatomy Scan vs Detailed Anatomy Scan

Does everyone get 2 of these?? Im wondering if there is a chance well find out the sex at the initial scan???

I only got one. My understanding is that the level 2 is given when they can't see everything or they need an even closer look at a potential issue. They can see the sex at the regular one as long as it's done late enough (around 20 weeks).

The intial scan is set up for me at 16 weeks and the detailed at 20......

My OB office sends me directly to the hospital's MFM Dept to get a Level II scan as *the* a/s, so I only get one u/s. Mine was scheduled for 18w. At the a/s, the technician first does the scan and measurements, then the MFM physician comes in the room to review the pics and then do a quicker/shorter scan herself. I get the results right away from the MFM doctor.

Not sure why you're getting 2, unless the first is just a regular ultrasound or something, but that doesn't really matter. At 16 weeks, they will probably be able to take a guess as to the sex, but I'd wait before painting the room pink or blue. The 20 week scan will be more accurate.

I get two. It's standard practice for my OB.

And yes, they told me at the first.

Is the 16 week one really an a/s? I've NEVER heard of having the anatomy scan before 18 weeks...things just aren't developed enough to get the measurements and pictures that they want. OP, like PP said, you might be able to get a good guess at 16 weeks, but don't start buying little pink or blue outfits until your 20 week ultrasound.
