I forced myself to finish it. It was awful, but I'm ashamed to admit that I was bullied by a friend to read the second one because "it is so much better". I'm reading it now and am still not impressed.
I got halfway through and had to stop. It was kind of disturbing to me and I felt wrong for reading it. I would like to know how it ended but I seriously can't make myself read anymore.

The general consensus that I've heard is that it's terribly written Twilight fanfic. And pretty much just written-out BDSM porn. Completely uninteresting to me...I'd rather spend my time reading something great and classic.

Uggh that book didn't do it for me..her incessant inner goddess ramblings drove me BSC, and what's with the all the flippin orange juice.. the book reads like an ad for the florida growers union. Oh and everyone has multiple orgasms the first time they have sex right? It's painfully obvious that no one edited the book either..
Whew! Just had to get that off my chest lol. OP- I'm sad that it's getting so much hype because it's not even good erotic fiction:( For laughs you should google celebrities reading 50 shades of grey..hilarious!! Gilbert Godfried and Ellen Degenerous both do pretty funny readings.
I had actually never heard of it until several people posted this link on FB about the content of it. If it really is about BDSM, its not something I'd enjoy reading. https://www.truewoman.com/?id=2095

lmao. I agree with most of your first paragraph, but shamefully, I still read it and just downloaded the second one. Yep, poorly-written trash, but somehow I'm still hooked.
Really unimpressed. The writing was pretty awful in terms of character development and dialogue, but the author's description of scenery and other uses of language were much better. She just didn't showcase her better talents. The sex scenes were laughable while the "kinky" things were rather disturbing. The similarities to Twilight were noticeable throughout, seeing as it did begin as a fan fiction.
However, I read multiple books a week regularly... so I'll read anything I come across. I did find a few spots in the first one that left me curious to keep reading, but not a lot of pull there. The other ones aren't much better, but they're still a read.

I didn't like it either and refuse to read the other 2. Sex scenes were okay, but overall I found alot of it disturbing and Grey borderline abusive (physically and emotionally). When I read love stories, I want to fall in love with the male character and he completely turned me off. Yuck!

I liked the first book although it was unrealistic. I am having trouble getting through the second book though. It seems like I am reading the same thing over and over again. They go through the motions but as a PP stated, it doesn't go into that much detail.
I can see why people might like it though.

I read all three in a weekend...you can' tjust stop at the first one because you won't get the whole gist of the story. I loved it, but I agree with people when they say you either love it or hate it. Everyone in my office has read it after me and they all rave about it like I. I don't need perfectly written books because I am not a reader to begin with, so I couldn't even begin to start to tell you what a well written book sounds like, so don't take that advice from me hahaha. I got my mom hooked on it also (weird I know, but I continued to tell her it turns into a love story). It really depends on your personality...you have to have an open mind while reading the entire thing or else you will be totally disgusted. I had to google some of the things they talked about hahaha. I would just advise you to look at the whole picture, not just the sex scenes, and the actual background as to why he is like he is, and you will begin to really enjoy it.
I am reading the first one and so far I am hooked! Like a lot of the other ladies say, you really can not put it down. I am not an avid reader so to me, it is a good book. I can't wait to read the other two.
I hate to admit that I got hooked on these. I ususally consider myself a book snob and I've been trying to get through all the classic novels that I haven't read yet. But I read the first paragraph of the first book and I had to keep reading. The writing and character development is terrible, but it's like watching a Lifetime movie, sometimes you just can't help yourself. A lot of the sex scenes were uncomfortable to read, especially the kinkier ones. I was definitely blushing and felt like I shouldn't be reading it. I hated Christian at the beginning but eventually he seemed less controlling.
My main reason for not totally loving it, as well as the Twilight crap, is that I hate that the female characters are so weak and have little self-confidence and during the whole series they constantly wonder why such a wonderful and beautiful man would want anything to do with them. I think my husband is amazing and wonderful and I'm constatnly grateful that I found such a great man to be with, but I've never thought I didn't deserve him. I think 50 Shades of Grey would have been more interesting if Ana had been a strong, self-confident woman to being with.
I read all 3. It's basically smut fanfiction in a book series. In fact, I read the fanfiction version when it was still based on Twilight. lol. It was okay, not a literary masterpiece by ANY means. Got super cheesy in book 3.
I'm going to start reading it tonight. I hope it will turn my nightmares into lusty dreams.
People keep saying it isn't well-written. I love reading pieces of literary art... but I can also appreciate a good smut book. If I'm feeling overworked and stressed, there is nothing in the world better than a good 'ol dumb read with no depth and lotsa wiener. And I don't over analyze books that weren't meant to be great pieces of writing and character development. Show me the wiener. Bwahaha
ETA: The Karen Moning "Fever" series was a GRREEEAAAATTTT set. Little bit of sex, great characters, some sexual tension, and some sci fi. If you kinda like sci fi, it is worth a shot (I like Hunger Games, The Sparrow, and Vonnegut books, which are light sci-fi, and I liked this series. It wasn't too dungeons & dragons for me).
I haven't read it but I am contemplating bringing it on a camping trip with me. All of my friends are raving about it but I'm resisting for now lol. I might read it just out of curiosity
