So i am currently 34 weeks, i see a high risk Dr. Due to previos losses. At my 32 week ultrasound my AFI was a 9. Was told to increase fluids, and no caffeine. Which i didnt drink much caffeine anyways. He said i may be a little dehydrated. We went on vacation the next week so I didnt see him last week. Yesterday my AFI was still at a 9. It was really hard to see baby Bc there wasnt enough fluid. All you could see was baby all squished in there. My NST have all been normal and baby is moving fine. The u/s tech scared us during the u/s, she said we will see What he days but it wouldnt suprise me if he wanted u to come back.Friday to check your levels again. And then when we saw the Dr. He acted like it was no big deal. He said if it got below 8 he would be alot more concerened. I trust this Dr. And if he isnt worried then i shouldnt be. But it still scares me. He said do still drink alot of water and stay out of the heat. My biggest fear is cord compression. Anyone have experience with this? Just need some good vibes.

Re: Another low amniotic fluid level question?
Based on most of the research, 9 at 34 weeks isn't that big of a deal. Since you're close to the bottom of the normal range (5 to 8 is borderline low, below 5 is officially low called oligohydramnios), you're probably going to get some extra monitoring to make sure you don't drop much lower. Keep drinking lots of fluids, and lay on your left side when resting. Sounds like you're already doing NST's and seeing a high-risk doctor regularly, so that's about all they can really do.
There was a study published last year that talked about the clinical significant of borderline low AFI (defined as 5-8), which you can read here: https://journals.lww.com/greenjournal/Fulltext/2011/02000/Clinical_Significance_of_Borderline_Amniotic_Fluid.20.aspx
As you can read there, the complication rates are a bit higher in the borderline cases, and substantially higher in the very low cases. But this study didn't even define 9 as borderline, it was in the "normal" group (8-24).
With you having normal NST's and regular monitoring, I wouldn't stress over this too much!
I have the same thing. I did a hospital stay for a week back at 32 weeks when they discovered my AFI was low. It hadn't been low the entire pregnancy, but I had the flu and was vomiting all night so he believed it to be from dehydration as well. One thing different that I have been doing is having significant contractions the whole time as well, which baby wasnt responding well to due to cord compression and low fluid. Things started looking up and I was released from the hospital at 33 weeks. My fluid level is currently a 9 and I have NSTs six days a week with one ultrasound a week to check the AFI, cord flow, and baby's growth. Everything has looked wonderful so far and baby's growing and passing all her tests! We are now at 36 weeks and delivering next week via c section. The doctor wanted to get me to 37 weeks and so far looking like we will make it! I've been on bedrest and drinking tons of water so I would suggest laying down as much as possible and lots of fluids.
Good luck and if u have any other questions, feel free to ask!
with DS3 it was found at 20 weeks. His ranged from 3-8. He also had IUGR as well. By 34 weeks his growth had slowed down tons and he fluid was around 6. A 36 weeks the fluid was at 4 and he failed his BPP so it was time for him to come. I was planning a VBAC but since he was early we went with a csection. He was 4lbs 10oz17.5 in.
