I picked up my son's epi-pen and Benadryl today because if you leave it at the school over the summer it will be disposed of. I distinctly remember giving the nurse a full, unopened box of benadryl perfect measure spoons. And I remember because I had this debate with dh because of how hard they are to find, I was trying to ration them out. Dh convinced me to send the whole box to school reasoning that we could find more. Well, we never have, but that's a different story. Today I got back an opened box with four spoons left. I asked the nurse where the rest of them were and she claimed that was all I provided. Ummm, no. And I know there weren't any instances of needing the Benadryl this year (thank goodness). But who took the Benadryl. Sure, it's just Benadryl and not some sort of controlled substance. But really... Six doses of Benadryl are missing.
Re: Irritated with school nurse
I'd be frustrated by that too. Maybe next year you could type up a form to fill out exactly how much you leave of each medication at the beginning of the year, the expiration date, date you're dropping it off, etc. You & the nurse could sign & date it then make a copy for each of you so at the end of the year you'd have documentation of what you left.
ETA: You could present it as something for your records...so you can remember what you've left at the school if you're worried it might seem rude. (I'm non-confrontational like that.)
