2nd Trimester

Nervous....Need some advice.

Hi everyone...I am nearing the end of my 13th week. ?I have not had any spotting since very early in the pregnancy. ?

Tonight I have noticed very light brown spotting. ?No cramping. ?I did have an ultrasound at work yesterday and the heartbeat appeared strong and baby was kicking and twisting (also had the hiccups?Smile

?I wonder if I should be concerned or just wait it out. ?Please let me know if you experienced this.

Thanks everyone and Happy Thanksgiving?

Re: Nervous....Need some advice.

  • have you had sex in the last 24? Exercised particulary hard? Vacuumed? These things can cause spotting.

If it's brown, it's old blood and *probably* nothing to be worried about.

  • i had spotting around 10 weeks. ?brown should be ok especially if it's light. ?you just heard the heartbeat, don't stress, your fine.
  • Usually they say some light spotting is normal. Doctors usually tell you to be concerned if it's heavy like a period or you bleed through 1 pad in an hour or less. HTH!
  • Pretty much any activity that you have to work at while pg can make you start spotting, b/c of all the blood vessels supplying your cervix. What I was told was basically if it's brown and you aren't cramping, then you should be fine.
  • Ditto all the previous posts.  I would only be concerned if it became bright red in color.  If you feel better though I would just lay down and elevate my feet for a while.
  • jenerally....no to all of the above. ?I would like to say yes so I could blame it on something! ?I will try to relax and not worry. It's so hard though....I know you all know this. ?Thanks ladies!
  • I have had spotting twice now, most recently last week. I had very little brown spotting for two days. I called the nurse and she said as long as I had only brown not red and no cramping, just to take it easy.

The first time, same kind of situation around 10 weeks. Went in for an u/s and saw the hb so everything was OK.

Just try to relax and be sure to take it easy. If you still have some tomorrow I would call the doc.

I hope everything is fine. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • i had bright red bleeding early on in this pregnancy, and brown spotting throughout the first tri.  My RE said it's pretty common -- and that even red blood can be OK as long as it's not accompanied by cramping.  Good luck and happy Thanksgiving :)
  • I had brown spotting for about 2wks from my 18th to 20th wk...Thank God everything is ok..my placenta is low lying and the dr thinks it could have been from that.  I'm starting my 22nd wk and it's gone. If the baby is ok, my dr said it's normal for my body.  Alot of women even get red spotting & they are fine.
