Dentist... sorry another post

So I have read that babies should start seeing the dentist around age 1. When I went to my appt. I asked my dentist who she recommends for a pediatric dentist. She said that Em can come to her starting at age 3 ( we LOVE her). I asked who she should see before that and she said that I should just brush Em's teeth myself and not send her until age 3.  What are you girls doing?

Re: Dentist... sorry another post

  • Our dentist said they would begin seeing her at 1 or when she had 4 teeth, whichever was first.  I have to make an appointment for both of us, I haven't been in a while.

  • I was also told this by our family hygienist.. and someone I trust.

She told me that as long as we clean his teeth with a wet wash cloth and if he carried around a sippy cup to only allow water, we should be good..

  • At M's one-year visit, our pedi said something like "you can take her to a dentist if you want to, but I don't know if I believe in it."  He told us to brush her teeth twice a day and we can start using a tiny bit of fluoride toothpaste since we have well water.  We probably won't take her for awhile longer yet.

  • I didn't take DS1 to a dentist until he was 2 because at age 1 he only had 1 tooth that had just come in.  At least by 2 he had enough teeth to constitute a trip to the dentist.  PS- Our pediatrician chastised me at every appointment between age 1 and 2 for not taking him yet.

DS2 has a mouthful of teeth so I will probly just scheduale him an appointment.

  • We won't be going until 3-4 years old.  We "brush" twice a day, will be getting rid of bottles in another 2 weeks (when he's one) and only water between meals.  You can go at one if you want to be extra safe.

  • I think everyone on the board knows my feelings on this at this point. Age 1. But at the end of the day, you are he parent so you decide. I posted on this yesterday - I can't link it but if you go back you can read my post!

  • When the big kids had their teeth cleaned, I asked their pediatric dentist about it. She said age 3 for us. She said the official recommendation is 1, but that its mostly for parent education.
