Loss of tongue thrust reflex?

My son has always stuck his tongue out a little bit but last night he was going to town Gene Simmons style! Do you think this is a sign of lost tongue thrust reflex? He is meeting all the other requirements of starting solids...

or did he just discover his tongue LOL

    It could be either.  If you put a finger or a spoon in his mouth, does he push it back out with his tongue?
