What happens after A/S? Tech says wait for doc to call...

After my A/S, the tech said that my due date and what not is right on point, but if there are any issues or concerns, the doctor will give me a call.She spent a lot of time taking pictures of my baby's heart and the diaphragm, but gave no information about what she was looking for besides saying she was measuring.

Is this standard?

My next appointment isn't until mid June, but it sounds like most of you ladies had a doctor's appointment on the same day as your A/S. Did I get shafted by the two dates not coinciding? If there was a severe problem, would someone have said something during the scan?

The u/s tech will not say anything about your scan as they are technically not supposed to 'read' them. Your Dr's office will call if there are any issues, I promise. My appts did not coincide, I think the next dr appt for me was about 2 weeks later. The a/s does take quite a bit of time to get all the measurements so don't worry about that either. If you are really concerned, you can call the office & leave a message for the nurse but it's really not neccessary. Try to relax Mama

As an US tech, I can tell you that we are legally not allowed to give the results of the US. The law says that if we do we are "giving medical information/advice without a license". A big no-no in their book. So don't worry that the tech didn't say much, we try to give as much info as we can without getting our butts fired. (a very difficult situation sometimes!)

The anatomy scan requires a lot of pictures of all the anatomy of baby and different views of organs are needed. So while it seems like a tech took a long time or many pics of a certain spot doesn't automatically mean there is something wrong. We are just being careful and making sure we got good info!

And yes, depending on where you had your US it can be hours or days to get the results. Some OB's read their patient's US so results can be given same day. Other places like hospitals and some offices a radiologist reads the US so the OB gets the typed/faxed report, which can take a few days.

I just spoke with my midwife about this. She said if anything was majorly wrong, they call the provider right away, but if it is normal, she would wait to go over it at my next visit. So, I would say no news is good news and just ask about it at your appointment! You could also call your clinic a few days after the scan just to make sure everything is normal.

Most u/s techs will not make any comments, except to possibly tell you what you're looking at. Our tech has been with the OB office for 5+ years, and the docs don't care if she comments as long as she doesn't freak people out, so she told us she didn't see anything that was concerning. What you describe sounds pretty normal. My a/s was the day after my 20w appt, and I won't see the doc again until June 20. I know they would have called by now if there was something to be concerned about - I was told that I'd get a call by the following Monday (a/s was on a Thursday) if something was wrong.

It may be totally different because I go to a Military hospital for my appts. But my U/S tech told me everything she was looking at and if everything looked good. Granted this is the first U/S I've had that some one has told me all that and this is baby 3 for me.

My baby has a heart abnormality - but the tech would not tell me that. She told me, "I'm going to make sure the radiologist has all the pictures he needs, I'll be right back." She left, I knew something was wrong. She came back with the radiologist and he delivered the abnormality news. His news was/is not matching up with the diagnosis - but he knew something was a little off.

If they suspected something was wrong - they would have found someone to tell you. Now, my appt was also not coinciding with my a/s, so it took 2 more days for them to tell me that everything (besides the one thing), including the function of the heart, looked perfectly normal. UGH!

I know your frusteration.

This is what happened at both my appointments. The first one they told me about his malformed cerebellum, they second time they thought they spotted something else, so a doctor came in to get a few more peeks, but turns out it was just a bad image or something. Either way, if they had major concerns, they would tell you right away.

This- the tech left the room to get the Doctor to come tell me about my previa. If everything is ok I think they just wait to let your doctor tell you.
