In the past, I would describe my older son as physically mellow. He's very cautious and timid physically. However, in the last couple months, he is constantly buzzing with energy. It's like he can't stop moving. I don't know what to do with this little ball of energy. He goes to daycare 1 day a week, he plays soccer another day. He spends time with me, Dad, and several grandparents throughout the week. But he just goes non-stop.
He wakes up at 6:30 RARING to go... literally bouncing. Sometimes he'll nap/rest and he goes to bed at 8:30. The rest of the day is pretty much full-time action.
Is this a phase? Is this normal for a 3.5 year old all of the sudden? Any suggestions about how to burn off some energy?
He plays really well with others, but we live in a very rural area so play dates are hard, which means to burn off energy physically, he wants me to do stuff with him constantly and that's tough with the little guy, work, chores, etc.
Edit: It may very well be related to having the baby, but why on earth is it manifesting itself in SO much energy? Where did that come from?
Re: Physically Active 3.5 Year Old?
sounds pretty normal to me.
Daycare/preschool does a great job at getting all her energy out!
Ha, I do the same thing. DS will run laps in the backyard while DD and I cheer him on. That kid never gets tired.
If DS (almost 3) is not sleeping or eating he's generally running. His preschool teacher even asked me if he ever walked. He's been this way from day one, so it's normal for us. I have 2 older girls and this came a huge shock to me b/c my girls are very calm.
We get out of the house every morning by 9 or else he starts getting bored. We'll go to the gym or just run errands just to get him out. We also go out in the afternoon to a park or just for a walk to burn off his energy.
The good thing is that being so active, he is a fantastic sleeper. I guess he goes so hard that he needs a lot of time to recharge.
Aside from just getting out of the house, I don't have any good suggestions. For us, being outside seems to make a difference.
