Potty Training Boys question...silly!

DS is potty training. He is doing awesome but I have a question. We have been having him sit to pee and we have the Bjorn Potty Chair that has the little lip that I assumed was to help boys not get pee everywhere when the penis does not point down while peeing. Sometimes when he pees though it goes straight up t and even though he is siting on the potty the pee is like a fountain and ends up shooting out and up and ending up on the floor.

I have been acting like I don't see it and we still count it as a catch. I figure he can't help it so as long as he gets seated and tries to go in the potty we clap and make a big deal of it. But any tips on helping his get the pee dowin instead of up?

LOL, the joys of boys Stick out tongue DH tried to teach him to hold it down and of course DS just looked at him like he had lost his mind and when DH asked him to try DS giggled and said NO!

  • Just keep trying to show him how to hold his penis down. It's an important life skill. :-)

LOL, I know that is right. An important life skill some men  (::cough:: my FIL ) never learn! Did you start your DS sitting down or standing up? I just kindof assumed I should start sitting.

  • He started out sitting, but decided to teach himself standing a week later. During quiet time, when I didn't know that he was out of his room. It was, um, awesome. He was a year older than your DS though. I definitely would stick with sitting to start. Aiming is tricky.

  • I put him on the toilet "rear facing."  he likes to watch himself pee and somehow this way works. My friends 4 year old still pees and poos this way.

  • Ben has that Baby Bjorn potty too and 90% of the time, still prefers to use that (vs. the big potty).

When he was first learning, I told him to make sure he closed his legs and that always does the trick to make his penis point down/keep the pee in the potty.  Now it's just second nature when he sits down, he puts his legs together.  I don't have to tell him anymore.

We tell him to "push it down"... otherwise... yeah you'll have a mess! lol  It's second nature now.  He also stands too.

  • I am adding a stupid question. For your boys who stand, do they stand and pee into the big potty or their small potty? DS is sitting now but occasionally he wants to stand like daddy. But there is no way he'd make it into the big one...

  • My son isn't potty training yet, but I wanted to let you know about a trick that we did at Kindercare where I worked.....
Ya know those fish shaped stickers that you can put in the bottom of your tub to make it slip resistant?  Well, we would lower the water in the toilet and put one of those stickers in the toilet, just above the hole in the bottom and we would tell the little boys to use that to aim!  This worked GREAT!! =)

Big toilet. Just have him use a stool.
