Sudden crying for unknown reason

My mom, who watches LO, just called and said she was playing with baby like she always does and all the sudden he got red and started wailing. She said she patted him and got a few burps out and he fell asleep in her arms shortly after.

She said he is fine now but it made her nervous.

Has this happened to your LOs? Do you think it was just gas related?

I am not going to call the doc unless it happens again...

 TIA

That's my Sophie all over. We call her the Bipolar Baby - she'll be totally fine, playing and enjoying herself, and mid-smile she'll suddenly start wailing for seemingly no reason. She'll usually be either gassy, or suddenly realize that she's tired, or just decide to be in a bad mood. I'd guess that if your babe burped and then fell asleep, it was probably just gas. I wouldn't worry, but as you said, just keep an eye out and see if it happens again.

    TY!

He has been sleeping a ton today too. Hoping it is just the 4 month growth spurt...

  • I really don't mean this to sound sarcastic or rude, but I think it's called being a baby.  It's just something they do.  Babies at this age are starting to be able to respond emotionally.   They used to just cry because they need something.  Now they can cry because they just don't want to bounce anymore, or sit where they are, or to be put down, or anything else they have decided they are not happy about.  It is just the next stage of development...just not the easiest one!

  • She could of suddenly gotten startled or scared. This happened to my LO today. Not sure what set her off but she was happy again seconds later.
