TTC After a Loss

I don't know what to do anymore!

I am so so tired of getting my blood drawn every week and getting excited that my betas dropped a lot and that I will be able to move on to TTC just to hear them say my betas are still relatively high.  I honestly don't know what to do any more.  I am so drained, sad, and angry.  It 62 days since I started miscarrying and my betas are still at 338!!! WTF? It seems like there is no end in sight.  I don't know what to do.  How anyone else dealt with this? Is this normal?  My doctor is out today and won't be in until tomorrow afternoon. I'm about to lose it.  I'm tired of being positive! I'm tired of this.  This whole process has almost lasted more then the pregnancy.  How can I ever move on if my body won't let me.  Sorry, I just needed to vent I guess.

  • What were they the last time they were checked? Are they at least going down? It might be beneficial to do an ultrasound check for retained tissue. I know it's frustrating and I'm sorry it's not happening as quickly as you want. 62 days is a long time. (((Hugs)))

I had a D&C on 05/16 and they found retained tissue.  They said they thought they got everything out.  On 05/11 it was 463 and 338 on 05/29 (yesterday).  They are going down again but I thought the drop would be faster.  I am starting to worry they are missing something.  This is an emitional rollercoaster from hell!!

  • Oh, wow. Yeah they really should be going down faster than that. Was an ectopic ruled out? I mean I know they found retained tissue in your uterus but it still just seems strange that even after a d&C it's not dropping faster.

Keep us updated. It could really just be as "simple" as slow dropping betas and not mean anything. But I know it's still gotta be hard to take. I hope your doctor gives you encouraging news!

I don't think an ectopic has been ruled out.  That is what I'm scared about.  How would they rule it out since I had a pregnancy in my uterus too? I hope its just because my body is saying I'm not ready to try again yet and nothing else but its hard to think that way at this point in the game!

  • I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine how frustrating it would be to still have them that high at this point. How is your doctor? Is s/he sympathetic to your frustration? Could you have an u/s done to see if they really did get everything? I remember someone on the m/c board needed 3 D&C's because they didn't get everything the first 2 times. Just because they say they got everything doesn't mean they actually did.

BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w4d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence

  • If it were an ectopic then they could potentially see a sac in one of your tubes. I've heard of ectopics where there is a pseudo sac in the uterus or there were just two embryos that implanted, one in the ute and one in a tube.

I don't think it's something you should get worried about because your numbers are at least going down but I'm thinking it might be worth checking out.

  • Wow! Im sorry honey. That seems like an awfully long time to have to be going through this! I agree with PP that you should request an u/s or more testing to make sure everything is dropping like it should. I would think if the pregnancy was confirmed in your uterus that you shouldn't have an ectopic... BUT crazier things have happened and an u/s would def. tell! Good luck hon! (HUGS)

  • PPs have given all the advice that I possibly could. I just wanted to tell you I'm very sorry you're dealing with that. Losses are horrific enough without additional complications and worries. Praying for a HUGE drop at your next draw.

My doctor did say there is a small chance of an ectopic with a normal pregnancy but when they found the retained tissue she wasn't worried any more.  I had an U/S back in late April and they did not see anything then including the retained tissue.  But I'll look into getting another one.  Worth a try. Hopefully, my doctor will call back early tomorrow and guide me in the right direction.  She is really super nice and has been very helpful throughout this process.  Just so happens she is off this day when I could use her.

Thank you ladies so much for the support.  I don't know what I would do without you.  I feel better now.  Just being able to get it out helps so unbelievably much.

I agree with LauraKat that you should look into requesting an ultrasound just to be sure there is no left over tissue. It could be what's holding you up. I'm sorry you're struggling with this. The beta waiting game is really trying.

I agree with this, I am so so sorry you are going through this.  (( Hugs ))
