Baby measuring a week behind at first ultrasound?

Hi!

We had our first ultrasound yesterday.  Although we saw a heartbeat (yay!), 112bpm, the doctor measured the baby at 5w 5d when I am pretty sure I am 6w 5d (as of yesterday).  Although I did not temp this month, I continued to track my symptoms on Fertility Friend and use digital OPKs.   FF and my signs correlate pinpointing ovulation to April 26.  First positive hpt on May 6 (10 dpo).  Betas on 12 and 14 dpo doubled.

I had one early loss in January.  Anyone measure a week behind at first ultrasound?

  • Just lurking here...I have consistantly measured a week behind and I am almost 26 weeks. Doctors told me not to stress about it. Congrats!

You could have O'd later than you thought, the measurement can be a couple days off. The important thing is you saw a heartbeat.

DD measured a week behind my entire pregnancy. With such a strong heartbeat, I wouldn't be worried.

You also have to take into account measurement error given the tiny size of the Baby the dr is measuring. At one of my early ultrasounds I measured 6 days behind where I was sure I should be. I spent the entire next week stressing out. At my next ultrasound, 1 week later, I measured two weeks bigger...exactly where I thought baby should be. I will never know if it was a growth spurt or just a bad measurement, but try not to worry. Esp since you know the heart rate.

At 7w4d, baby measured 6w5d with a hb of 127. I know that I O'd a couple days late, but I'm pretty sure when we conceived. I was a little nervous about it. I had some spotting about a week later and had an u/s - 8 days after my first u/s and baby measured 8w2d instead of the 7w6d it should've been based on the previous u/s. Also, the hb increased to 171. I felt that was a little closer to my calculations. Maybe at your next u/s your baby will play catch up a little bit, too!
